Headlamp Switch Question

Does anyone know if the newer style 4 position headlamp switch (like the ones on the '04 Avalanche) are interchangeable with the 3 position style (like in my "02 Silverado)?

Being in the military, I have to turn off the head lights when entering the gate and I am starting to get annoyed with having to push the dome light override push button four times everytime I have to do so (everyday, sometimes more than once a day).

I was just wondering if I bought the four position style (Auto, On, Park, Off) if it would connect up the harness that is in my truck and function the same.

If your going through the gate during the day you only have DRL's on not headlights. Also what are all the people that have cars doing they havent got the option to turn theirs off. The DRL's were mandated by the Fed's to GM over the settlement of the Gastank controversary. The switches arent interchangeable.:(

Thanks for the repy. I don't go through very often after daylight, these days. I didn't think that it would work without swapping harnesses, but I thought that I would ask anyway.

In 03 GM made many changes and it would require a neBCM and changing wires around.

As stated in previous post, install a switch.

Scenario, as you approach the gate, rotate the headlamp swith from O position to parking lights position, the flip installed switch, pass the gate, flip the switch back or rotate headlamp switch to headlights position.

The switch is connected between the two wires of the "Ambient Light Sensor"

According to the GM Silverado Service manual 2002

BCM pins A6 (white) A4 (Grey) connects the light sensor

0.2-4.7 volts is used as a switch range. The BCM outputs a 5 volt reference.

2.2-4.7 volts indicates Light

0.2-1.3 volts indicates Dark

Testing procedures use a 3 amp fused jumper between the two pins, wire the switch as such.

Easiest access is behind the radio to the two wires leading to the sensor
