Plastic trim on door and bed...

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if anyone knows how that plastic trim on the door panels, cab, and front of bed are attached and if it's something that can be removed. The reason I ask is because I'm interested in getting Line-X on my rock panels and with the placement of that trim, it might look weird or be tough for them to work around. So I'm curious as to how it is attached; whether it's just glue or actually attached through the metal. If anyone has seen this let me know. Thanks!

attached with two strips of double sided tape. If you are going to line-x the bottom I would have them do just below the trim if you want to keep the trim on there.

Take a heat gun or hair dryer and get them warm, then you can peel them off rather eazy without the possibility of pealing the paint or leaving the sticky stuff on the paint. They are on there with 3M double sided foam tape

The trim should stick to the line-x, there is a guy that lives by me that has an OBS that has the line-x on the rockers and his trim is on top of the line-x. His truck is red with the black line-x on bottom. Looks real good. I would ask him if he did anything special to keep the trim on, such as anything other than just the regular 3M tape, but he bought the truck like that and I'm sure he has no idea.

I also am going to be doing this soon, so it better f***** stick!!!!! Have a good one guys. :flag::fume:

Heat Gun. Keep a good distance though. Man, that is a beautiful black truck. I think I would put up with a few rock chips. My buddy did the linex rocker panels and it looked good until the first winter here. After all of the road salt, sand, and grime it looked faded and dry. His was also black. It looked like two tone black and grey the next spring. He took it in and had them spray black back over it with the clearcoat. I seemed to hold up real good against rock chips. I guess the paint on top of the liner created some insulation and kept the paint from chiping off of it. A little reduntant, but you could try that route, even if it did chip you have the liner underneath, instead of bare metal. I have tried the factory splash guards to prevent chipping and they only protect a small area. I wish there was an invisible, hard, enamel that you could have applied to prevent chips. Oh well, good luck.

There is a transparent 3M adhesive backed film available (sort of like the invisible bra stuff, might even be the exact same material) through places like JC Whitney. It comes in rolls. I bought a 12" wide x 10ft long or so roll of it and cut pieces to protect the leading edges of the rear wheel wells on the 2003 Trailblazer (back door, mainly). That area was the most prone to being sand / rock / salt blasted by debris from the front tires even with mudflaps. Unless you stand right on top of it you can't tell the film is there and it DOES a good job of protecting the paint from chips.
