oil filters

Was walking around wal-mart the other day and figured I'd get an AC-Delco filter while I was there and noticed that they are carrying very few AC filters these days at least the wal-mart here and they have a ton of those super tech and fram. Anyone else notice this ? Wanted to ask someone but no one around must be dumping the Delco.

The Wal-marts around here just recently (a year ago maybe) started carrying the AC Delco's.  Still mostly Fram though, and usually only fram air and fuel filters.  At the risk of starting a long, useless thread, I much prefer the AC Delco filters.  I haven't a clue if they are better than the Fram, but if it ever came down to a warranty claim, I think you would be much better off if the truck had AC Delco aftermarket parts on it than Fram. Just my opinion.

I noticed the same thing with Wal-mart. Seems when I bought the Siverado July 2000 they did not carry many AC Delco filters (especially PF59) but now the stock has been upgraded somewhat. I usually buy 3-4 at a time just to be sure I have one on hand.

Anyone tried the Mobil 1 filters?

Welcome to the forum.

My cousin runs the mobil one filter in his car, but I can't justify paying 10 bucks for a filter.  I hear it's good.  I know someone will have a link to a tech page that has a breakdown of each type of filter and there filtering abilities.

From the FWIW files:

Can ANYBODY tell me first hand that they have ever lost an engine over A)  an oil filter failure  B) an oil related failure

and if you have ever experienced A or B - - - Did you succeed in holding A) The manufacturer of the oil filter accountable  or B) The oil producer accountable?

I feel confident in saying that if your engine locks up due to an oil filter failure or an oil failure...You'd be hard pressed to see an oil company or a filter maker make it good.

Can anybody really prove that they got 100K trouble free miles with an AC....and only 70K with brand X?

Yeah, I noticed the supply at the local Wal-Mart was getting pretty low on AC Delco's.  They only had a couple of the small filters and one large one.  None of the PF-59.

raventai,   when I go to gmparsdirect, how do I find that filter? Is it the PF-59? (the one you're using)  I went there and found an oil filter for the 5.3, but it didn't really say what kind it was, and it was only $3-something. Is that the right one? I want to order a few of those, since you guys seem to think they're the best. thanks
