truck wrecked while getting my oil changed

i have a question but i have got to tell the story first because its so crazy. i got off work early so i decided to get my oil changed. i was sitting in the lobby and the oil chang boy comes up to my and im ready for the whole air filter questions. but then he just said that there was an acident. the kid was backing out someones suv that was finished and crunched my ext cab door all the way in to my back seat. he then said that they would pay for all the repairs i just need to give them an estsimate. rental truck too. they also had the nerve to ask me to pay for the oil chang and i said hell no. well anyways i got the estimate...$2100. they want to paint all sorts of stuff that i could give a d**n about like the inner rocker pannel and stuff. the only thing thats wrong is the rear door.

heres the question... where can i buy a rear ext cab door skin. just want to have it painted and put it on myself and save the rest of the money for myself.

ohh yeah i just had that side repainted 2 months ago because someone keyed it...talk about bad luck

Gee, I'd think I'd like a body shop to check everything out and make sure its all ok on the inside as well as the frame. If they made such a mistake, then I'd let them pay for it all. If you did get a door and something else was actually wrong, I dont think the money you'd keep would be worth it in the long run.

west chevy,

I don't really have anything to add, but I'm sorry about the ride and what I really can't believe is that they asked you to pay for the oil change!

You did the right thing in refusing, I would have done the same! Good luck with the repair. Oh and get the biggest rental you can!!

well i already had it checked out and its just the rear door so i know theres nothing else wrong...the shop just wants to make more money by painting were the door came in on the jam a little. the paint there has worn off from my feet hitting it coming in and out anyway. in fact i think what they wanted to paint had nothing to do with the wreck. i know i could just get it done but i would like to do it cheaper and get something outa this deal.(like a lift kit) . all i need is a painted rear door. but i am going to give them the highest estimate i can find...suprisingly the chevy dealership isnt the highest so far...its a place we have here called CARSTAR.

Check around at your local wrecking yards and see if they have a complete door in the same color as your turck. You might get lucky and be able to install it and buff it out. Worth a shot.

Just go to the dealer Chev or GMC parts department and order the collision parts you need. For less monies (but shipping might negate the savings), call one of the forum's preferred vendors PartsZoneOnline.com. There's also Sallee Chevrolet that offers fairly good part discounts.

Also Ditto RaySS. You could also "look" around the internet for a yard that would ship a like color door.

Another idea would be to go a different body shop and tell them it was your fault and you're going to pay for it out of pocket instead of taking the insurance hike that would result from the claim. You might get a lot better price on the job that way.

:uhoh: Make those clowns pay for the damage. Personally I will not take my vehicles to one of those "quick lube" places....heard too many horror stories including yours.

thank you for all the good opinions. took them my highest estimate but the problem is they wont cut me the check they want to make it out for the body shop. not what i wanted to do. i told them to make the check out to me and i'll take care of everything but they refused to. now im in a delima. i have an uncle that owns a small body shop. i may have to have him make up an estimate and give him a few bucks to just give the money to me.

That's why they're called "accidents". We've had 'em in the dealership too. Seen one or two vehicles dropped of the lift, among other things. Obviously, no one does this on purpose.

They are hosing you big time. The truck is yours, the money is for the damage to your truck, you can do whatever you want with it. Tell them to cut you the check or you will contact your states attorney general, see what happens then. As long as that body shop is licensed (not some guy in his barn) they must give you the $$$.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
