Trailer Tires

It is time for new tires on the popup camping trailer. Most vehicle radials won't work for RV trailers because they don't have the appropriate weight rating. So, I am back to special trailer(ST) tires. I am looking for either 5.30 x 12 bias ply, or ST145/R12 in radials.

 

Current Contenders:

 

Carlisle Bias Ply - I had one trailer with these, and they lasted quite a while, but started splitting laterally along the tread. American and Asian Sourced

 

Duro Bias ply - My current trailer has these. Same symptoms as the Carlisles. Used to be American sourced, but now Asian

 

Towmaster Bias ply - Had these on a trailer for a short time, but sold the trailer shortly afterward. Seemed good, but have no idea on longevity or durability. Completely Asian sourced

 

Carlisle Radial - No experience. The few that I know that have them seem to think they are decent. Origin unknown

 

Transmaster Radial - No experience. I don't know anybody with these. Origin unknown.

 

So, if you guys can give me your opinion, that would be great.

I went through the same situation last year with tires for my boat trailer. Did a lot of Consumer Reports type research to figure out what I wanted.

 

After all that, wound up going with Carlisle bias ply, but only because that's what the local tire shop stocked. Don't think it was a bad decision because the worn out (dry rotted sidewalls) tires I was replacing were Carlisle bias ply and they lasted 9 years.

 

Good luck. Think you'll find a lot of brand loyalty that really doesn't help you make a logical decision.

I was way off when I read the title of the thread. I was going to say leave them on, but you wasn't speaking of a mobil home.
