Ignition PROBLEMS NEED SERIOUS HELP

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 1996 Chevy silverado 5.0L Vortec 305 v8. The problem started when i went to autozone and the associated pulled out some OBD II codes on his scanner these are the following codes:

p1345 - SGC (Cam Position) Sensor Circuit Malfunction.

p1406 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Position sensor.

So i go and buy the Cam postition sensor located inside the Distributor.

Then i go home and change it mark and put everything back in place.

(After stating the codes he said the only one i need was the Cam position sensor, since it malfunctions that would also pull out the p1406 code....wtf?)

Truck WON't start? WTF?

so i notice 1 of the wire that goes to the ignition coil kind of messed up so i decide to replace all the wires and get new spark plugs while i'm at it. and also buy a new distributor cap.

Truck STILL WON'T START!! WTF?

it Just back fires through the Throttle body.

it can't be out of time since the computer controls all that.

could it be some type of cross-fire going on or what?

anything will be help full.

Truck was working before any of this happend.

Go back to cam position sensor and put the old on back on and see if it starts and runs. You may have gotten a bad sensor.

NITRO SOUNDS LIKE YOU PUT YOUR DISTIBUTOR IN AT THE WRONG POSITION, TO RESOLVE THIS, ENGINE NEEDS TO BE AT DOP DEAD CENTER OR HAVE THE #1 CYLINDER ON THE EXHAUST STROKE AND POINT THE DISTRIBUTOR AT THE #1 MARK AND INSTALL. DONT PLAY A GUESSING GAME DO IT RIGHT, WOULDNT WANT TO CATCH YOUR TRUCK ON FIRE WOULD YA?

Welcome to the board GMFLEETTECH, it never hurts to have more techs around. I'm guessing you're new to the idea of giving advice online so I have a couple of words for you. First off when you tap in all caps it kinda makes it hard to read. It doesn't bother me much but there are plenty of guys who will put up a post asking you to "STOP YELLING!!!" :chevy: Also always check the dates of a post before you spend time on it. I figured this guy must have pulled the distributor or crossed a few wires but he never came back. That's been over two weeks ago. Chances are he found it and forgot all about this post. I've seen guys find something during a search and without thinking about it try to help a guy finish a clutch job over a year later, LOL.

That's all, like I said welcome aboard and keep on with the help as there are many who need it and things are harder nowadays.
