I have a 2004 GMC Sierra with an automatic and a 4.8. My wife has been reporting that sometimes when she throws it into reverse even though the selector says R it's in neutral and she's gotta throw it back into park and reverse, and on and on till it catches. Now I drive the truck more that she does and it's never happenned to me so..... Could it have something to do with her key? Or just a lose tranny linkage? Maybe the trucks just wearing in (24000km) but it bugs me why its happenned to her 5 or 6 times but noe me, also she's had the 4wd warning light come on for her a few times but not me. Any ideas?

There is a electronic module on side of tranny the shifter is hooked to that actually shifts the tranny. I suspect the linkage is a little out of adjust meant and it is not a sign of a serious problem.

Thanks, but how come it's never happenned to me? And she cant be doing anything wrong it's not too hard to shift an auto.

She may put it in the gear detent just a bit diferent that you do. I had my torque converter and front pump replaced last winter on my truck under warranty and they replaced control module too but they got it a tad bit out of adjustment because occaisionly I have to bump the shift up a bit in OD postion for OD to engage but it does not happen often and I have not looked into it yet.
