trouble starting when engine is hot

In the morning or when the engine has had enough time to cool off it cranks right up. But if I've been driving it and the engine is at running temp it's really hard to start. I have to hold the egnition and pump the gas for it to start.

Anybody know what's going on?

Thanks

Sounds like the same problem I had... brought it to the dealer, and they replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator....

Not pressure regulator. If only does it when it has been run than it is the check valve in the fuel pump in the tank.

How do I know this, well I own a 1997 suburban that I had the same thing go wrong. Repalced the pump and it worked perfectly.

I forgot to add that, after you run it a while let it sit for awhile go to the shrader valve on the fuel rail and press it. This is done without the key on. if there no pressure than you now know what fix. The check valve keeps the pressuer on the system even when the motor is off. Also when out turn the key on to activate the pump then turn it off. Now try to start the truck..It should run. If it does then you now know you need a pump. I kanow this because I replace 2 pumps over the life of of the suburban.

how difficult is it to replace the fuel pump. Is it necessary to take it to the dealership. I'm pretty handy and often fix things from using the haynes manual. i always like to get input from others before I start to take stuff apart.

Also, thanks for the advice guys.

Big daddy, it depends on the year yukon you have. if it is older than a 2000 the tank is in the rear it is not hard if you have someone to help hold it. Here is what i know.

Some tahoe and yukon you may have to buy the whole sending unit. Some tahoes and yukons you pull the sending unit and just replace the fuel pump that is on it. That is the way Suburbans are. Basicly you loosen the straps that hold the tank up and remove them. The tank must be as low on fuel as possible, so it is not heavy. The tank may not want to come down at first so you will need to use a pry bar to free it. There is a soft insulating material that gets sticky and holds it up. Once loose you loosen and remove all hoses and clamps to the fuel filler neck and fuel lines. You will have to disconnect the wires and grounding strap once everthing is loosened the tank should be free to remove from under the truck. Now there is a caulk type substance that is all over the sending that will have to be scrapped off to get to the locking ring. the locking ring has tabs that keep it in place. now turn the locking ring until the unit can be removed. Once out the pump can be removed from unit ( if you have that option to do so). Always replace the filter that is on the bottm of the pump. Now you are ready to put it all back together.

Get am manual so that if I forgot anything it will help you.

It is not that difficult just a pain in the but. Dealers charge a great deal to do it and then the part.

You can get what you need from autozone or the parts house of your choice.

Good luck.
