Looks like my 04 Crew might be in this one. Can't imagine how a seatbelt cannot correctly fit across the hips. Makes me wonder exactly what they need to do to "fix" it.

Just a guess, but if the insert and the receptacle were spaced too far apart, the belt would be going across some peoples thighs or (ouch) groin.

The link also states that they had problems with parking brakes, on manual transmission models. Are they different from automatics?!?

 

My truck's in the shop this morning for a few minor items. Tranny and engine oil cooler lines all leaking (chinese junk?), poor chrome on one hub cover, and a tear in the back seat where razor sharp sheet metal cut through the foam and vinyl on the RH underside corner. Of course, as I was pulling out of my driveway this morning, I felt the dreaded steering clunk! I asked them to take a look at it too. Probably get the "Normal Operation" excuse again... Sigh...

I don't know this for a fact, but I think the parking brake setup is the same for manual and automatics. They are probably counting on the automatics "nub" to hold the truck on a hill, the manual obviously dosent have this feature. Taking the cheap way out again.

Not at all. Parking brake uses either dedicated brake shoes in the disk / drum combo of the pre-05s, or uses the brake shoes that is part of the 2005 rear drum assembly. And it isn't present-tense, but for vehicles of a few years back.

 

This is the quote from the bulletin: "More than 142,000 1500 Series 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierra pickups were also recalled, along with 2500/3500 Series 2001-2004 manual transmission pickups, on potential parking brake problems. "

Yes, I know how the parking brakes are designed to work. What I was saying is the automatic transmission has a "nub" of steel which when placed in "park" engages a spline in the transmission. The manual of course does not have this. I don't trust the "park" mechanism to hold my truck, I always use the brake. If you were to park a manual tranny truck on a hill, you have a much better chance of it popping out of gear and rolling, or if the grade is sharp enough, it could roll without even popping out of gear, same as when you push start a manual when it has a dead battery.

Anyone who has used my seatbelt in the rear seats has complained about how they work, and lock in position for no reason. Dealer always said it's nothing they can fix because it's a saftey device.

Actually, the CC has a child restraint type seatbelt in the rear. If you pull it all the way out, it goes into ratchet mode. The only way out of that mode is to retract it fully and start over. I had people complaining about mine until I learned (from the owner's manual) about how they were designed.

Finally I may get a working parking break on my truck! I am guessing someone made them fix it in manuals, because according to GM "the parking brake works in conjunction with the transmission to hold the truck in place." Well how does it do it then when you have to put it in nuetral to warm up the vehicle? Maybe thatis why they are fixing the manuals.

 

BTW, anyone know where you go to see if your truck falls under this recall? GM never sends me recall notices, even though they have my updated address.

M = Mega = Million. Capital M has always meant million. I don't know for how long, but it dates back to ancient Greece.

m = milli, or 1/1000th. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

K = Kilo = thousand.
