I've been debating getting the MAC Cold Air Induction Kit and the Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer for my 8.1.

Anybody out there used either of these? If so, are you satisfied w/ the product?

Thanks for any assistance! :P

A throttle/air vavle spacer on a Vortec engine is a waste of money. I would not waste money on a cold air intake either. Money would be better spent on a custom tune on that engine and would yeild better results too.

I believe there is a technical reason why the TB spacer won't do much, if anything, on that engine. I can't recall now why but it was either in a post here or at

I think it was in one of these forums.

Not sure about the MAC cold air intake. I put a K&N on my 01 5.3L. With the K&N and a Flowmaster cat back I gained a lot of power and torque. The performance shop dyno'ed it before and after. Gained about 25hp but more importantly it shifted the horse power and torque curve to the left, a lot. What I mean by this is that I got much greater torque at lower RPMs.

I just bought a 04 2500HD and already have the K&N. I continue to wait for either Flowmaster or Magna Flow to get off their butts and offer a cat back system. I have the 8.1L. Not that I really need more power for what I do (tow) but I'm a junior tool man, you can never have too much power!

The reason they kinda work on some TBI engine is because the increases phlenum and mixture turbulance to atomize fuel better and enhance flow. WIth Vortec engine the intake is tuned and works differently and does not benifit from a air valve spacer.

Thanks guys!

I'm looking at this more from a fuel economy angle. Even though I'm getting around 12mpg now I'd like to see if I can get one or two more.

Thanks again! :P

Have same truck but 02 and drop in K&N, Poweraide spacer, Hypertec programmer. Spacer has very bad whine at one specific throttle point. Poweraide says due to large increased air volume though throttle body and nothing they knew of at that time to remedy. Had same brand on 5.7 and no problems. I live with it though because I believe you can feel it kick in at about mid throttle. If you think you can feel 6600# of truck be able to kick in. All this for better gas and it doesn't seem to have worked. But can't keep foot out of gas.
