when at idle my oil pressure is about 20 psi. seems like it used to be 40 psi at idle. i have 97000 miles on it. 2002 denali. no engine noises. last 2 oil changes found something sticking to the drain bolt. something magnetic i guess. also service engine light has been coming on. related?. rough idle, and oil gauge needle fluctuates. help would be appreciate.

engine idles below 1000. but while driving pressure reaches up to 80psi. but ill double check right now.

dealer claimed service engine light was a fuel injector problem.

The service engine light is in no way related to oil pressure. You could have zero oil pressure and a knocking engine and the service engine light wouldn't come on. Specs for minimum oil pressure is 6 psi.

That light has been a thorn in our side since it first started. It should really say "service emission system".

Lots of injector clogging issues, so yeah, the light on could easily be injector related.

What was sticking to the oil plug? There's a TSB on needle bearings coming out of the rockers and ending up in the pan and on the magnetic plug. Don't recall if it applied to your vehicle.

what is tsb. the stuff on the magnetic drain bolt is some kinda silvery looking but almost crumbles between your fingers like some kind of never seize grease or something. thats the best i can describe it. do you think that stuff on the drain bolt cold be traveling with the oil makin the gauge jump like that. maybe cloggin something up

Normal sludge and wear. You might increase your oil change frequancy with that engine as it gets older to minimize that built up on plug.

thanks for the info. i havent had much luck with the dealer as far as the service engine light. it came on and went off by itself and hasnt been back on in a week and a half. to do a top engine cleaning, throttle body cleaning and fkuel injector cleaning could i do it myself. throttle body seems simple but not sure whats involved with the other 2
