dash pad replacement

volfan

Question

i was recently thinking of replaccing the dash pad in my 99 silverado becaause of the paint flaking off in about 3 different places it looks real bad :jester: and naturally it has to happen after the warranty is out :chevy: so i can buy a new one for about 150 but how much labor is involved in the r&r of the dash pad .is it something i should let mr. goodwrench do ?

If you're mechanically inclined, you should be able to handle it. It's not difficult at all. You may find the hardest part is getting the assist handle off. Here's the procedure from our service information.

------------------

Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper

Removal Procedure

Set the air flow control to the instrument panel (IP) vent position if equipped with air conditioning (A/C).

Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.

Apply the parking brake to prevent the vehicle from moving.

Move the shift lever all the way down (if the transmission is automatic).

Tilt the steering wheel to the full down position.

Remove the IP cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Bezel Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Cluster .

Remove the end panels. Left is shown, right is similar.

Remove the right side air outlets. Refer to Air Outlet Replacement - Instrument Panel in Heating and Ventilation (Non-A/C).

Remove the assist handle by depressing the release tabs accessed through the air outlet duct holes.

Remove the windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar in Interior Trim.

Remove the bolts retaining the pad to IP assembly

Disconnect the electrical connector (1) to the ambient light sensor on the underside of the trim pad.

Remove the trim pad from the assembly.
