I have a new '05 Silverado that needs protection in the bed. I am having trouble on decided what type of bedliner to purchase. A drop in liner vs. a do it your self. I have had many drop in liners and know how they hold up but, I have never tried a do it your self product like Durabak etc.

I would appreciate any opions on this matter.

I've heard from a few people how it works good for a while and then it starts peeling. But I haven't had any first hand experience with any. It would take alot of prep work to make the bed hold the do-it-yourself bed liner.

i did the do it your self bed liner, it is ture it does peel off, but that is due to to thin of a coat. i found that out be cause i ran out and left one area thin. for now it's been little over a year and it holds up. just like you see on tv when they heavy object in the bed and it does not scrach it up it,s true, except when you have a old 68 429 engine block in the back and a line brakes loose and slams into your fender wells, it seems to not hold up to that

oh and one more thing if you are going to do that roll on kit were gloves and other close you can throw away, that stuff will stay on your skin for days, i sat in the shower for over one hour trying to get it off with paint thinner and if you do use paint thinner dont do it in the bathroom that stuff will mess you up i was higher than a kite

I would go with a spray-in liner like a Line-X or Rhino. I just had mine sprayed with Line-X, and I am very happy about it. I emailed about 10 dealers in the area and asked them for pricing on my truck. I got a quote from Rhino for $355, under the rail. I got a quote from Line-X for $440, but they said they would match any competitor's price. So I went to the more convenient Line-X installer and had them install my liner for $335 after using a $20 off coupon found online. Not to bad considering the Chevrolet drop in liner was going for $285 at the dealership. Spend the extra money and get the lifetime warranty.
