self-learning Suburban?

The guy at the 4x4 shop said it'd take the computer 1-1.5 weeks to adjust itself to the K&N FIPK. I didn't believe him... Any way, my first week with the new intake showed that the gas mileage is almost the same as with the stock one.

One week later, I took it up the mountain for some fun in the snow. The last 20 miles are strictly going up steep, winding roads. I figured it must have been detrimental to my total gas mileage. I took it for refuel the day after I got back. The gas mileage went up 2mpg despite the moutain passages! I've been looking at the needle a lot lately and noticed that it goes down a lot more slowly than it used to. So the shop guy was right? Anyone knows?

It takes the computer about 500 miles to relearn it's new codes after a mod like an FIPK!!!  I gained about 1/2 mpg overall in my '00 Silverado w/5.3L after the FIPK was installed.

Unhooking the battery for about 15 minutes is a good way to go.  The computer has to re-learn everything when you hook it back up so it'll "learn" about the new filter.  That's probably the best way to go IMO.  The only thing you have to do is re-set the clock, the radio stations are saved in the radio so you won't have to reprogram them.

Jon - thanks - works for me, because I have yet to get anything installed in less than 15 minutes, and I always pull the battery per the instructions. Dumb luck strikes again.
