Intake manifolds...yeah I got nothin'.

Hey,

I am stuck between two aftermarket intake manifolds for my 99 Yukon.

GM performance parts has one...see NAL-12496821 at summitracing.com and the Edelbrock 7516 (on the same site as EDL-7516). Has anyone here installed either one of these manifolds and if so, can I get some details in terms of effort, other bits and pieces needed and general issues, not to mention performance increases. The GM manifold seems to have a 3 bolt pattern for the throtle body whereas the Edelbrock is 4 bolt. So, which one will fit my stock throttle and all the other stock pieces on the Yuk.

Thanks for your time guys,

Taim.

PS. If you know of something better still, please throw it out there.

Thanks, mjgjr72

Well, that solves that...so, is there an intake manifold out there that fits? Because the upper part of the manifold is plastic and I'd like to change that.

Thanks again.

Get one off of a LS1 or port your stock intake.

i think the ls1's are plastic too, and only give a noticable power increase at high rpms and from what i have heard you lose some low end torque

the only metal intake for the gen 3 that i know of comes with a magnacharger radix supercharger, that runs about 5k for the kit.

are you looking for a performance upgrade or just want a metal intake manifold.

Thanks for the input so far,

I am all about a performance upgrade. I am planning on dropping in a Comp cam package (if it fits) and I'd like to increase the air intake to go with that. The engine designation is L31 ( and yes I will obtain a custom tune to go with all the goodies). :D

Well, thanks again and please let me know if you see a performance intake manifold for the engine.

You guys are WRONG, he has a 5.7 350 vortec, SBC.

It is not a GEN 3 motor.

99 SUV's were obs

no kidding. some people that don't read. if you find a 99' yukon with a gen III engine in it, you can be sure it wasn't factory.

i'd recomend looking into this manifold or this one.. the edelbrock manifold would have to be drilled for injectors and you'd have to make your own rails. the holley manifold assuming it's correct (the description says vortec and the picture shows otherwise) is what you'd be looking for. holley also sells the fuel rails for theirs. the downside is the a/c compressor bracket would have to be modified and you'd have to buy the wilsons manifolds adapter as well as switch to the gen III sbc style throttle body. i'll see if i can get the picture posted of what i'm talking about. the 4.3 intake i posted a picture of before is made just like that. standard intake with injector bungs welded in and on top the wilsons manifold. there are 2 more being made this week at the shop so pictures shouldn't be a problem. both of these are going on late model 4.3 vortec's, but it'll be the same basic idea. it's a pain to get it to work, but well worth it over the stock crap. tuning on the other hand is a real MF...

Thanks everyone for the info,

You would think getting a performance intake for the L31 wouldn't be such a pain. I called summit racing and they stated that this part would work...EDL-3817. But I'm not so sure. Ok, I'm going to show my ignorance now...what does obs stand for. I get tpi and tbi but obs is a new one for me.

Thanks again,

Taim.

obs is old body style. in 99 they made both body style trucks, but didn't make the new body style utilities until 00'.

I spoke with Edelbrock about the same thing and they told me that they do not make a intake for our motors. The closest thing I could find was a GMPP intake that I was told woudl work but I have not done much more research on it.
