Bad Blower Motor??

Ok we just got a 97 Chevy Silverado 2500 X-Cab 4X4.  Now we've already taken it back to the dealer for some work on it.  The one I am inquiring about today is the fan blower motor.  When we first got it and turned it on, the entire dash shook really bad and you could hear the motor (it was loud).  So we get the truck back and they say the replaced the fan and the belt (belt is in the blower motor right?).  All is good until this morning is starts screaming at me, so I turn it off.  I turned it back on when I got to work to see if it's still doing it and it's still making the loud noise, it still blows out air, but I also could smell it burning a little, so I turned it off.

Is this a common problem? Has anyone else had problems with their blower fan?  Does anyone else's dash vibrate with it on?

Thanks alot guys,

Sarah

Welcome to the forum.

Yup, sounds like a bad blower motor alright. Mine is a little noisy, but nothing like you're describing. Assuming it's still under warranty, I'd take it back until they fix it right.

Yeah, it sounds like the blower motor.  I leased a '98 z-71 and it went through 3 blower motors in the two years I had it.  I think it's a common problem as when I took it into the dealer they mentioned they had problems with 'em.

My 97 Tahoe's went away also.  It's actually quite simple to replace as it's just behind the dash on the passenger side footwell.  I have a feeling they replaced your belt under your hood and not the blower motor for your HVAC.

thanks for all the replies guys.  I'm not sure which belt they replaced now...but we're taking it back.  We got a 3 year 36K mile warranty so it's covered.

So how are the tranny's?  Are they good? We also found some red fluid leadking, but wasn't sure if it was tranny fluid or power steering fluid.  I also forgot to ask them where the leak came from.  I went in with a list of stuff for them to fix and they got it all....supposedly.

Actually I asked the guy about that red fluid and he said it was some hydraulic pump thing for the power brakes....as long as it's fixed and doesn't leak again, is all that matters :)

So I take the truck back again last night and I get a 95 Blazer as a rental....a he!! of a lot better than the 91 tahoe I had!

He'd be referring to the power brake booster.  However, this power brake booster itself doesn't have fluid in it at all, let alone a red'ish fluid.  All it is, is a vacuum actuated diaphram that helps reduce effort to the driver when applying the brakes.

As to a 91 Tahoe, Chevy didn't officially name a truck Tahoe until 1995.  Up until then, Tahoe was a trim package on S-10's, S-10 Blazer's and full size Blazer's.

I didn't realize that but thank you for pointing it out.  It was the trim for the S-10 Blazer that I had.
