Would the k&n filter kit (the one that replaces the whole inlet tube),  a set of ceramic coated headers, and a power programmer III be worth the money.  I am looking for more power without going into the engine.  I have a 97 Z71 with the 5.7L engine.  I already have "true" dual exhaust with glass pack mufflers.  Anyone running these kinda mods on their truck?  How were the results?  Any help is appreciated.

I can't really speak for the headers but I'd imagine they'd help somewhat.

In regards to the Hypertech Programmer and the K & N FIPK,yes they are worth the money,IMO, and are not very difficult to install.

"Worth the money?"

That depends.  Consider this-

K&N FIPK =?

Headers = ?

HPP 3 =     ?

That's almost ?.  I doubt you'll see a ? worth of difference.  Plus with running higher octane gas with the HPP # and stomping on it with the glasspacks and FIPK, there's more cost.  I think you'll wind up with a better sounding truck but not necessarily a more powerful truck.  For real substantial power gains, the supercharger is the only option-

IMHO, all of the air filter systems they sell ARE NOT worth it.  ? for an air filter? If you want to see what that mod will do, take off your current set up and put a stocking over the throttle body, then go for a ride.  I think you'll agree.  However, they dress up the engine compartment real nice.  Much better ways of improving the intake for alot less money.

Headers are good for some small hp gains (usually at higher rpm's) and will open the door for future mods and show even more improvements  BUT... I'll tell you right now the glass packs got to go.  They are costing you bottom end tork.  I know they sound nice, but they don't provide enough back pressure.  Again, IMHO, headers with a well engineered dual exhaust (the right diameter pipe) and a set of good turbos(or flowmasters) will show nice benifits.

As far as the power programer goes, I've never used one, but I did have real good results with a Superchip.  (my last truck, it was a 96 ford)  But... I did have to run premium and it was worth it to me.

Just my thoughts,

Chris

I saw on TNN "Crank and Chrome" where they installed the K&N FIPK on a new Vette, and got over 15 rear wheel horse on the Dyno!!!

I liked the K&N FIPK on my 5.3L...  It looked great and sounded cool, and I picked up about 1/2 mpg's.   I don't know how much power gain I got because I never dyno'd the truck.
