My ses light come on , had it read at autozone Code p0430 on bank 1 and bank 2 I have an 01 ECSB 4.3 with 65000 miles. What is the most common cause of this code Thanks

you only have code p0430 catalyst system low efficiency bank 2

 

0r do you also have code p0420 for bank 1

 

but either way it is usually a bad catalitic converter

I had a 2000 Tahoe that threw that code -- started about 70,000 miles, was still doing it when I traded it in a 140,000 miles -- To pass inspection (in texas they juct connect to the computer - no actual exhaust test) clear the code - wait 24 hours and drive 30 miles

 

I know that sounds like BS - but it erases the fact that you cleared the code - It would take about a week for the code to come back on mine. Good Luck

Had a similiar issue on my 00' Sierra. Same codes were set and the truck was starting to run bad under load on the way up north (MI). The catalytic converter went bad (can;t remember which one). Dealer replaced both of them under the 8yr or 80k emissions warranty. Before you clear codes/ignore/etc, make sure it is not a cat converter issue. Get it covered under that warranty if you can. Otherwise it would have cost me ~$750.

do all of our trucks come with an 8 yr or 80K emissions warranty, or is that an add on? i'm at 83K so I guess it's moot, but I was just wondering.

I guess I'm screwed p0430 with 83,000 miles................

although the engine light just turned off,

so now technically I have an intermittent bad cat ??????

I thought the Feds mandated 100K warranties on ALL vehicle emissions components?

 

Edit: Nevermind, it is 8yrs/80K miles.
