:) - That's me with my eye's spinning from reading all the different stuff and articles on the web, mostly from links off this site.

I'm just looking for a simple answer and from the articles i've seen, there's no definite conclusion.

Before finding this site, i've mostly ran Fram oil filters, Ya......me bad! :D but up till this point, "hey, Fram's a good name, the filter must be good" what did i know.

Well after reading and lurking on here, and seeing how you guys and the articles bash Fram filters, What's the best filter, or What are you guys using?

I have a '04, 4.8 extended cab 4x4.

Any input is greatly appreciated!!!!! :chevy:

You'd be just fine useing the AC/Delco oil filter. Its not a bad filter its not the best but it gets the job done and your truck isn't going to suffer any just because you are not useing the absolute "best" filter on the market.

Ditto with Ryan on the AC/Delco

If you were having good experience running a brand no real reason not to continue. There are no brand loyalties anymore in my opinion. If it fails you, then move to the next.

There's opinions from extremes as syn-oil every 3K and the absolute best filter to cheap dino and filters maybe every 7-10K. So it seems that average is the norm.

You'll probably get the boat load on this thread anyways.

If it fails, move on to the next ........How would the average Joe know if a oil filter is "failing" / not doing its job? :chevy:

Fail...good question. I couldn't say for sure, beside a couple of signs.

Material blowout, aside from neglect and it being clogged but rather from bad quality.

Excessive sludge from fine dirt passing through the filter media, other than oil test and dropping the pan etc for visual check I wouldn't know how you could tell.

I know everybody hates FRAM, but i have used them on my 1988 silverado and have 210 thousand miles on it and have never had an engine problem. I've even gone so far as to have the oil pressure drop to zero when in tight turns, that tells me I have to change the oil.

I'd use any of these.

A/C Delco

K&N

Mobil 1

Wix

Napa Gold

Purolator Pure One

Purolator Premium Plus

SuperTech....yes the Walmart Special has proven to be a very good filter for what it costs.

I agree! Can't go wrong with any of these and they are easy to get.

I've seen all the negative reports on the Fram filters, and repect other people opinons, but I can say dad has always used Frams with no problems at all. I know he's been using them since the '80's on at least 5 cars and 3 trucks he's had or currently has. 2 of the trucks had/have well over 100,000 miles, 1 has about 80,000 and all but 1 or 2 of the cars had over 100,000 also.

I mostly use AC Delco on my truck, but have used Frams also on my current and previous truck as well as the last 3 cars I've had.
