Installed my FIPK last night...

Started about 10:30 last night and took about an hour. Pretty straight forward kit, decent instructions but the images could be a little bigger or something. I haven't had much opportunity to "feel" it out yet, only the drive to work. Intake noise isn't as bad as I originally thought. It does bellow somewhat going down the interstate around 75-80 mph.

For the experienced owners of these I have a question. Is it typically better to have a little too much oil on the filter or a little less?

Too much will kill your performance. Too little will get sh*t in your intake that you don't want. It should come pre-oiled. Then re-oil it as specified when you clean it no more or less.

To much oil will cause problems with your MAF which will cause drivability problems.

If you use a pre filter wrap should you still lightly oil the filter?

and does anyone make a paper cone filter?

I don't think I over did the oil - just wanted to make sure that I didn't under do it. This was my first K & N...basically I just ran a bead down the riser of each rib and let it soak down to the valley section. I'm going to re-check all the connections and such this weekend. Seems to be running out pretty good...now for a custom tune of some sort!

dont believe these guys and their garbage about overoiling. I always put alot of oil on mine and let it dry real good. i have 200,000 miles on three trucks in 4 years thats say you cant over oil. I have never had a problem with the maf and i dont have a screen in mine either. some people just repeat what they hear rather than knowing from experience

Thanks for the info - what differences did you notice from removing the MAF screen? Did you see a drop in MPG?

hey i realize this is an old post. but...

I put my K&N in 125,000 miles ago and always run oil down each rib. K&N only warns against under oil, not over, and their whole gimmic is increased performance, so i think if they were worried about people over oiling and hurting the MAF they'd warn you.

Over the last 4 years at average gas prices i have figured my K&N to save me around $800 before it's own costs. with a mpg gain of 1-2.

also, I like the noise it makes.
