Fog or Rear Lights?

Recommended Posts

I bought these driving lights to put in the place of my missing fog lights (the OEM ones are lost in some mud puddle...). But then I began thinking, maybe I should put these in the rear so if I'm backing up, I can see? And I could put brighter (100W) lights up in front instead of the small 55W lights...

I go off roading at night (or will be now), so I need to pack in the light... Having the fog lights and the 100W driving lights would be interesting. Not sure if that's overkill or still not enough. Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

Having more light when you are backing up is a good idea, however I wouldn't advise backing up in the dark without a spotter. We had a couple of guys up here back up over a cliff in the dark. It wasn't a pretty sight when they hit the bottom. As far as 100W driving lights on the front. As you probably know 100W bulbs use a lot of juice and get pretty hot, they work much better at highway speeds because the moving air keeps them cooler. When you are going off road in the dark you are usually moving at a slow pace and the heat buildup of these bulbs shortens the life of them because there is not enough moving air to cool them properly. I would look into a driving light like an HID or something similar that uses a 55W bulb but gives off the equivalent of a 100W bulb. I know PIAA has some lights that fit this criteria. Bottom line is you can never have enough light when you are driving at night off road. :)
