My DRL's work, my parking lights work, but when I try to switch on my headlights, nothing (but parking lights). The high beams do not work either. I cannot find any headlight relays, or fuses. Can anyone help me with this? I am looking towards the switch, but want to make sure before I dump out the cash for a new one.

There's also a relay on the firewall on the inside of the cab up under near the brake pedal as long as 98's are the same as my 97 was. That was where I disabled my DRL's.

i had the exact same problem, the wireing harness in the steering colum started shorting out. They said it was from useing the tilt steering wheel. A wireing shop fixed it for 100.00. they said it was a common problem with the trucks with tilt steering if its used all the time.

There are no fuses for the headlights on the 98. I will try to locate the relay tomorrow and check that. I tried a new switch and that did not fix it. I thought about the tilt harness as I use my tilt wheel every time I get into and out of the truck. Although, the wiring harness was replaced in Jan when a remote starter went haywire and fried the harness. If it was the harness, they would have replaced it then while they had the dash apart. Thanks for all of the help, I will let you know what I find after I fix it.

So I figured this out today. When I removed the steering wheel, I found a broken wire going to the combo switch (high beam, cruise, tur sig, wipers, etc.) (good call Rookie). when I examined the wire, it was corroded and broken off (blue wire), I checked the rest and the tan one next to it was the same way but holding on by 3 strands. I rosened the heck out of them and tried to solder them, not easy to do, after 3 tries, I think I got a good connection and the head lights work now.

Thanks for all of your help on this one, it had me baffled for a while. BTW, the correct fix for this is a new combo switch and harness (no they do not come seperatly). This could have been done eaiser by making a plug in harness, then the harness could be replaced for $25. But you know the general, they do not always think of these things for the long haul.
