'05 Crew Cabs

Just wanted some imput. I've got an '05 Crew Cab 2wd in silver birch. I've lowered the rear 2" with DJM shackles, tinted the front windows and added Motte MT100 20" wheels with 285/50R20 Goodyear Eagle GT II's. I've had it about five months now and have only put 2855 miles on it. It's the SLE and has the 6-disk changer w/ Bose and captain's chairs, towing package and the 3.73 rear axle. I've used to mostly for cruising around town but did pull my '66 Mustang Fastback to a show(about 200 miles each way). I averaged over 15 MPG while towing (unbelievable to me). When the 4-door trucks came out, I actually said that they needed to make a 2wd with a short bed and it would sell like crazy. When it came out, it worked out just right because I was in the market. I don't really have a question. I just wanted to get other owner's opinion of their crew cabs.

Yup, love mine. I spent about three pages in January praising the '05 crew cab. For a short bed and people hauler, with light duty hauling and in my case a Z71, it is simply an incredible truck. Gas mileage is amazing at freeway speeds. I also have an '03 Z71 extended cab, so can easily compare.

When the GM employee discount hit I jumped on a 4x4 version. Love it!

I haven't done much to it other deep tint, 20" rims with GTII's and pulled the blocks out between the springs and axle to level it out. I'll keep this one a while!

I've got an 05 CCSB 4x4 with 6800 on it and love it as well. My gas mileage sucks @ 13mpg, but all I do is city driving ATM. I'll be moving to california in a month from pennsylvania and towing a 2000 chrysler minivan on a trailer with it, so we'll see how she does on the highway with a load and 3.42 gears in tow/haul mode.

Very nice! I got 20 inch rims for mine right off the bat and never saw the truck much with the the Aluminum 17's. I forgot how nice they looked! After seeing yours I'm glad I got to keep the 17's too. They should be much better for the winter months and still look cool!

Here's my truck

Hey, I did notice one goofy thing, not sure if it's the same with all new silverados, but what's with the front license plate mount? Mine angles out like yours. I didn't notice it until they put the plates on the other day. I wonder if there is some kind of license plate mount bracket available like my old 89 silverado?

From a previous topic a few months back:

"Dragging up this slightly "old" topic, but I finally went to the local Wal-Mart and saw one of these in stock. I think $3.30. With some washers leveling everything out, this is the "perfect" frame for the the late model Silverados. Price is certainly right! Looks "factory". Be sure to go into the hardware section and get a bunch of washers. Common sense should kick in and show you why when you start installing."

Sorry about that, I'm a total newbie, I should have done a search. It wasn't until I saw psu05's truck that it hit me again. I'll try and work the search a little better from now on.

Thanks for the tip!

Liking my Z-71 4x4 pretty well so far. Had it just over 3 weeks now. Interior room is fantastic from coming out of a 98 Jimmy! Leather buckets are extremely comfortable to ride around in. One thing I'm seeing is the extreme wheel hop I get over bumps from the rear end. Some spots on the 4-lane just about hop me out of the seat! Anyone know of anyway to calm that down some? Aside from that, the ride is fantastic. Thing moves if you want it too. This is my first pickup for daily driving, still trying to get used to the size of this thing! Later-

Adding about 300 pounds in the back will fix most the hop. There's no weight now to keep the back end down. Lord Taylor's Velvet Ride Shackles used to be recommended to fix this, but they don't have a series for the recent 1/2 ton trucks.

I figured as much about the weight, but I'm sure the milage would suffer from this as a result. See what happens this winter when I add some sandbags or something. Have to keep an eye out for those shackles, maybe coming out with something sometime? Keeping the fingers crossed. Traded rides with the wifey today, so I've got the Grand Prix to rod in to keep my mind off of it! Thanks for the reply...
