Trans fluid & filter change

About how many quarts of fluid did you guys have to use to fill it up when doing a tansmission fluid and filter change? It's a 4L60E deep pan. About 5-6 quarts?

 

I've got 5 in the work shop now, but just wondering if I need to get more before hand.

i only used 4 but i dont know if i have the deep pan or not, how can you tell BTW?

about 3-1/2 qts on a deep pan 4L60E when doing a filter changeout

Tom, it's been a while since I did mine, but I want to say it was a little more than 4, but I don't remember for sure. But 5 should cover it. One tip you may want to do is, if your fluid level is correct right now, measure how much you take out, and put that same amount back in. Then recheck it. This should get it close for you. MMM

Personally I'd want to have 6-7 on hand, but really you should be okay. I'm working at a Chevy dealer as a mechanics assistant for the summer, and on the two 4L60-E's I've done fluid/filter changes on, one has taken 5, and the other 5 and a half. Be sure to clean up the mating surfaces real good before you stick the pan back on!
