Finish on center console

I have a 02 Yukon Denali with 65K miles on it. On my center console the finish is peeling!! The gray coating is bubbling and peeling off. I have already had the cup holders replaced because those were peeling as well. GM covered me on that part, but will not cover the console. I used to have a 95 Chevy Silverado, which we still own and that dash is peeling as well. It is the same finish as the Denali. Also my father has a 03 Escalade and his center consol is starting to bubble. His isn't nearly as bad as mine. How is it possible that these 3 vehicles have the same issue? Why will GM not warranty this on going problem? Does anybody else have these same issues????????

I have a 02 Tahoe LT with a gray interior. So far all surfaces are peel free.

I can't believe this is happening to your trucks and the fact that GM is not

covering really makes me wonder about what the priority of quality is at GM

Wow!

I found that my dash was doing the same thing at this one particuliar spot, dead center just behind the front edge.

Took it to the dealer and they replaced the entire dash without question or hassle.

Of course, it was under warranty. If I were you, have them explain the "bumper-to-bumper" warranty. When the person is done explaining, ask if the dash is between the two bumpers. This should free a stuck gear in their head.

Good luck!

Funny you bring this up. On my 05 Sierra I hung one of those Air freshner trees from my heater controls. Just from the little string going back and forth during turns wore the pain right off the dashboard clip below the controls. Looks like crap now all black. You guys think the dealer will cover this??

They should on yours,Your still under the 3/36 "Bumper-to-Bumper" warrenty.

I think thats the problem with jen1443,Its not under the 3/36 "Bumper-to-Bumper" because it has 65,000 miles on it,Way over the 36,000 miles GM covers.

Thanks for all the replies. I failed to mention earlier I have a extended warranty!! It is not up for quite some time.

Two different dealerships have told me the part is not covered.

Unfortunatly extended warrenties will not cover things such as this,They only cover powertrain,A/C,electrical and suspension items,Not trim or interior items.

I have the tan interior color and the pain on the dash trim, the piece that goes around the dash and radio and a/c controls, that piece has some peeling in it. And its only in that place. I don't understand it at all. No warranty left here though...schucks!

I have been lucky,No peeling here at all on any of my trucks I've had.

I have seen a few with some peeling problems here at the dealership,But only a few,We changed the dash panel in a couple trucks I know of,And the dash bezel in another,But thats it.

I know the air freshners will do big time damage to the paint, seen that quite a few times!

I wonder if the different climates we all live in have something to do with it,You know as far as temps. or sun exposure to the paint.

As far as a recall,Won't happen....Its not a safety issue.

I see it all day long on quite a few NBS trucks. My friend's 02 GMC Sierra has it and he only has 28K miles. My buddy works at a truck dealership and half of the trucks they get in are peeling too.

I wonder if Armour All or solvents in cleaning products could be the cause. I have never had a peeling problem in any of my GM trucks over the last 20 years.

Have the peeling dashes / consoles been sprayed with Armour All ever?

Back in the day, I used Armorall all of the time and my dash dried out and cracked. When I talked to the upolstry shop, they explained that it dries out the materials. His suggestion, use water on a clean towel, it may not shin, but it will last a lot longer.

i have used armorall on every car and truck ive had , and never a problem , i dont and never will buy that exscuse , there would be some sort of info on that as long as its been around . personally ive never seen '' peeling '' dashs or parts before , i have seen nicks and scratchs on friends and familys before , but they dont take care of there stuff near as good as me . i mean this stuff is pretty strong and durable , maybe some people are harder on there rides than they realize , if your allways throwing stuff on the dash and bumping and hitting this stuff its gonna eventually show wear , but hey , not everyones like me .

I have a 2002 GMC Pickup and my dash peeling also. I would sure like to know how to fix this problem also. I have 57,000 miles on the truck and a 100,000 mile warranty also. I was at a care lot the otherday and saw another 2002 truck with tan dash peeling real bad. Is thier a way to get GM to do a recall?
