Nav system and DVD movies

Hey guys, sorry if this is a repeat question, but I have just recently found this sight and simply think it is great. I read a crapload of threads last night and cannot remember if this was answered or not.

I am planning on adding the rear module to get XM thru the factory radio and also am serioulsy thinking about getting the factory touchscreen Nav system. I currenly have a DVD player where some of you guys have added the 6cd changers. I was curious, can i get DVD video thru the Nav screen or for that matter will it play a DVD movie.

any reply would be greatly appreciated.

someone correct me if I am wrong but I am almost certain that the factory NAV units do NOT play DVD video.

yea that is what i was afraid of. The thing is, I saw a nav touchscreen for GM on EBAY that says it will play DVD's. hmm, next question have you guys heard of a possible wire harness upgrade that will allow me to pipe the DVD video onto the touchscreen? Last question, do you guys know what the safety feature the navigation system has that everyone is trying to disable. I unforturnately don't have a copy of the manual yet and was just curious to what I will not have available when cruising down the road.

The Denso nav units for the Caddy cars will play DVD's, the Delphi units in the trucks and SUV"s will not.

You can buy a PAC video input interface that will provide a video input to the nav screen. They are about $350.

The safety feature is the one that will not allow setting or changing the destination on the nav screen while the vehicle is in motion. The INR's don't have that feature, only the TNR's.

To disable that feature you need to add a switch to the VSS wire. With the VSS switch turned off (opens the VSS circuit) the nav unit doesn't know the vehicle is in motion therefore allowing you to make destination changes.

The VSS wire is only needed to compensate for a weak or lost signal from the GPS antenna.

BB Silverado, Thanks for the quick reply, Believe it or not I got lost in the forum and thought I had read the entire thread on installing the six disc CD changer. I have found the answers to most of my quesitons, now I am trying to decide if i should just go with a non-lux system or should I go with the lux system and get the upgrade amp.

The biggest issue is the cost, I see that JP Customs has both systems for around 2100 for all minus the upgrade amp if i go lux, I was just hoping I could go a bit cheaper on the upgrade, Wife is looking at me like I am crazy wanting to spend this much money on a GPS system,

Good news though I shouldn't need the 6 cd slave becuase I have a DVD player in that slot below the radio and it will play DVD and MP3 etc.

How do you identify the VSS wire?

BBSilverado--actually, the INR units (or at least the one that originally came w/ my DXL) don't allow you to set/change destination while in motion (w/o modification, of course), either...except for selecting Home and the (I think) 5 preset destinations.
