Yeah, I had to special order the truck. I didn't find a single 8.1 / 6 speed combo when I started looking. I think I would have liked the Allison but it's a pretty $$ option.

13.1-13.3 with 02' ext short, 8.1, allison, 4x4, 3.73, 80mph interstate 20mph cross wind and plugged up air filter, 245/75/16. better than the 6.0. 4.11 crew cab pickups my brother and buddy has and no where near the power.

Hello all, I am a new member. I have an opportunity to purchase a 2002 Chevy 2500hd ext cab LS with 8.1/ally. It has only 38k. Absolutely no rust.(in Cleveland) They want 12,000 for it. I am concerned over gas mileage. Will do some towing. Some work driving. Seems like a deal I should not pass up. However, might I be better off looking for a basic Silverado with a 5.3?? do you know how much you will be towing, weight-wise? my '04 Sierra 3500 with a 6.0/4L80E sucks for gas mileage, the 8.1 is gonna be worse, but it'll tow better.
