Lots of Boxes came for me today

I just got three big boxes via UPS today.  One was the carpeting for my truck, a center console from the junkyard, and just some misc. pieces.  So hopefully this weekend I'll be able to yank out my seats and put it all in.  Don't worry, I'll get pictures.  The only problem is that they didn't send me the metal pice that the console mounts on to so I can't do this without it.  I mean I could, but then I'd just end up tearing the front seats out again.  Well, we'll see how it goes.  The carpet makes a good rug on my floor, maybe I should get one of those toolbox coffee tables to put on top of it...

Can you fabricate your own mounting bracket for the console, or is that too big of a job???  I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the truck when you're all done

I was thinking about it, but there are 4 bolts in the console that screw into it so I'd have to drill and tap some holes, so it will be more work than it's worth.  I'm trying to get a hold of the junkyard today because they had said it came with it so hopefully they'll send it out.

Well, talked to the junk yard, the guy apologized and sent it out yesterday.  So, I guess I'll be doing this next weekend.  I may have to use the shop at work because I don't think this great weather will keep up for another two weeks.

Well, I was  bit bored last night and decided to mess around with the front of the floor console.  Now seeing as how I have the floor mounted 4x4 shifter I would normally not be able to get a console.  However, since it's all just dead space in the console anyway I took out a coping saw, file and some steel wool and I cut back the side to allow for the use of the 4x4 shifter.  I'd have to say for doing it free hand it turned out pretty good, once i get the mounting frame (probably early next week) I'll put it in and make sure it fits.  I'd like to do something with the main part of the console to maximize space.  It's got the air vent in it which I ripped out and there is just tons of un-used space inside of it.  I'm probably going to do a bit more customizing to it and work my CB into it somehow.

Alright, i did it saturday.  From start to finish I had it done in two hours flat.  It actually went pretty easy.  Once I get the pics scanned I'll have a little article about it on my site.  So hopefully that will be in about a week or so.

I couldn't believe how it really made the interior look great.  If I didn't say anything I'm sure that no one would notice that my seats used to be a bench.  Even at the dealer, they thought they were bucket seats too.  The carpet has been one of my best mods thus far.  It makes the interior feel more cozy and plus, my feet don't slide around like they did on the rubber flooring.  I'd have to say that anyone who has the 40/20/40 bench and wants a console should get one from the junkyard, it's an easy install and it looks great.
