"The “C” designation signals a third generation for GMC's full-size pickups following introduction of the Sierra badge in 1988 and the line's complete reengineering in the 1999 model year. "

Just as an FYI -- I read today over at thecarconnection.com that the C3 is going to be renamed for '02 or '03. They'll be giving more detail next week.
