Valve noise

I'm getting the normal GM valve noise only on hot normal engine temps at idle, does anybody know what this is or have a fix, it started at 16k and GM said this is normal, if so how come it didn't do it at first

Nobody !

I guess i'm on my own, I have an appt on Monday with the dealer, I had to see the service manager first before they would look at it, they said he has to look at all engine noise complants before the bring them in.

it's like a ticking with some cladder, it's intermittent not constant. the strange thing is it sounds louder at about 10 ft away.

other than this, the truck runs great, no piston slap, or valve cladder on heavy accelleration.

Maybe it was your question. What's "the normal GM valve noise" ?? If it's normal, then there is no help to give, though our engines don't normally have valve noise.

So, how does one answer that question? Noises are hard to diagnose when you're standing right there listening to them, let alone trying to diagnose them over the internet based on someone's thinking of where the noise originates.

I know noises are hard to diagnose but this is not like the normal GM tick, you can only here it at idle when the eng is hot, and it will do it about every few sec every time at idle, with A/C on or off it will still do it.

I was just checking to see if any body else had this noise. and if the dealers told them it was (normal)

They are looking at it on monday so I guess they changed the "gm normal" to will look at it and see

Well nothing is wrong with the truck, I Guess I will have to live with it,

Allthough It's cool to have a gas 1/2 ton truck that sounds like a duramax.

Update:

There was a GM engineer looking at Monte carlo, so he looked at my truck and said the noise was coming from the valve train, cam area, more so on the drivers side.

it's more noticeable when not under a load (in park)

He is going to reserch it and call the dealership as to what to do next

Update:

Cam and lifters going in on monday. Maybe this will fix the noise

OK, What is involved in replacing these parts on a vortec, and what parts will they replace, clean, reflash comp etc. The Dealer will be doing the work.
