Hey guys. Tried searching but its down I guess.

Im looking at a new tahoe (well used)

2002 LT Autoride 38k miles

Questions is, what is the autoride consist of? Anything to do with the track control system?

Should I stay away from autoride? I dont know much about it... Inform me :seeya:

It has something to do with the shocks automatically adjusting to the type of road conditions you are on. Nice ride, but expensive if the shocks go out, which I heard has been a problem on some. I guess you can equate it with an air ride suspension that adjusts constantly. Chris

Yeah, my last tahoe didnt have this, and I am just wondering if I want to stay away for the same reason you state $$$ when a shock goes out. And I dont think i need it, i dont do a lot of heavy towing...

I have the autoride and it does make a difference in ride quality but it limits you when you try to do modifications.

From what I understand the front shock change their dampening capability based on the terrain you are driving over but they are not air shocks. The rears are air shocks that adjust rear ride height and also adjust dampening like the front.

The only complaint I had with mine is when I adjusted the torsion bars up an inch or so the rear pumped up with air and it kept the same rake and killed ride quality. Overall I'm happy with autoride but I wouldn't get it again. I'd just buy some good aftermarket shocks to improve the ride. I think autoride just limits your future mods like a lift or t-bar adjustment.

FYI... I have 65K on mine with no problems. Rides good now that I lowered the t-bars back to stock.

I have Autoride in a 3/4 ton Yukon XL, and I can tell you the ride is great. My understanding is that the 1/2 tons with Autoride (Tahoe/Yukon) have an additional air bag component that the 3/4 tons don't have. I can't be any more specific about that part of it.

The function of the Autoride is to dynamically adjust each of the 4 shocks independently every 20 milliseconds (much faster than I can type) so you are constantly changing shock settings as you drive to control pitch, yaw, and firmness in each corner of the vehicle. It makes a great and stable ride. I have noticed that when I go over a sharp bump in the road, mine stops pitching very quickly, while most other trucks and cars continue for another cycle or two.

I like the ride, but if you have thoughts of suspension mods, stay away from the Autoride system and your life will be much easier.

Agreed that the ride is nice. BUT....at $300 per shock plus no suspension mods = no go for me.
