Rear door latch actuator

Hi all...

I've got a 2000 Tahoe Limited (99 body style) and recently my rear door lock has stopped working. I can lock and unlock it manually but the switch on the inside panel of the passenger side rear door has stopped working.

I took apart the door yesterday and I saw the part and it's not moving when I hit the button. It works intermittently and by intermittently I mean it fails 95% of the time but every now and then it'll work. I'm not sure if I should take that as an electrical short or a failed actuator.

I think I found what I need on gmpartsdirect but I'm curious of the install. The door is a pretty tight squeeze. Is this a simple unbolt/rebolt job or do I need a bunch of special tools to get the thing out of there and put back in?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

more than likley it should be a straight forward install. I have never done it on your vehicle, but I have done it on bowties before. normally, there is a screw or bolt that holds it in and it is accessable from behind the door panel.

I have the same issue/same door on my 99 Suburban, let me know if you have any luck with it.  I haven't gotten time to mess around with it yet.

:seeya: Be fore you go tearing it out check this first. At the top of the door there are some pin switches. If they start to get rust or gunk on them they will not make contact. Take an green scratch pad from the kitchen and rub them a bit. Then put some Dielectric greas on the contact points. This was the problem with my yukon. it was a quick and cheap fix. Give it a try.
