How often does PCM need to be updated?

I was curious how often (if ever) the PCM needs to be updated. I'm not sure it's ever been done to my 2000 Silverado Extended cab Z71 w/5.3l. I gather I have to take it to the dealer, does anyone know how much they charge? I figure I'll have them do it when I take the tranny in to get flushed.

it should not need a retune unless it is damaged.

GM frequently comes out with calibration updates for one issue or another. I'd say if yours has never been updated since 2000, I can almost guarantee there are updates available. These updates may not provide you with any change that is noticeable to you.

 

If you give me your full VIN, I can probably tell you if there are any updates. Dealer will probably charge you 1.0 hr labor to recalibrate your PCM.
