A New Dedicated Server is on the way!

First, yes, this post is the same on GM-Trucks.com and SilveradoSS.com. (sister sites, always have used the same server, plus saves on me typing)

 

But anyways! We've finally gotten the specs on a new server settled. Its going to be a really slick dedicated setup just for our collection of websites.

 

The specs are pretty cool(for a web server):

Pentium 4 Processor

1gig Memory

Two 120gig hard drives setup in a RAID 1 mirror

1200gig monthly bandwidth (yes, 1200 gig)

 

More information on when we will be going live on this new setup will be coming soon. However, expect some site downtime on/around the 22nd of this month.

 

To help offset the costs of this new server, we will be implementing a "Supporting Member" program on both sites in the near future.

Ed McMahon showed up at my house the other day, and I told him..."Bah, give it to Zane, he needs a new server". He then made a strange "guffaw" noise, jumped into a van with his balloons, and drove off into the sunset.

 

We should call PCH, I think we may find Ed in Vegas spending your server money on hookers and blow.

Does this mean that if we want to use the site, we have to pay a fee for it, even if we just want to read posts, or is this money coming from vendors like Tbyrne, JP Customs, and the like? Just wondering...

I think what Zane is saying is that there will be a certain area for "supporting members" only while the rest of the board will remain unchanged. Basically you get access to this area if you give a donation of a specified amount.

 

Many other sites do this and it works out ok. You should still be able to access and participate on the site as you do now if you choose not to donate, that is if I'm reading this correctly.

There will be NO loss of abilities. We will be offering the ability to attach files to posts and use the GM-TC gallery to upload files/pictures.

 

No paying to use GM-TC at all! Just offering some extra things for people who are kind enough to donate and help with the costs.
