TNR Hidden Diagnostics Screen

Sorry if this is old news, but in case it isn't...take a look:

TNR Navigation Diagnostics Menu:

normal_navmenu.jpg

Submenus as follows...

GPS Information Screen:

normal_gpsinfo~0.jpg

It would appear that the TNR is capable of pulling in at least up to 8 satellites at once; and might even be capable of pulling in a Differential GPS signal, based on the "D-3D" representation at the bottom of the screen.

Vehicle Sensors Screen:

Maybe I should have this particular screen up when I'm driving so I can see what kind of data is being received by the TNR.

Color Bar Check Screen:

Parts Information Screen:

normal_partinfo.jpg

Disc Information Screen:

normal_discinfo.jpg

Location Information Screen:

Error List:

Navigation Version Info:

I did not include a snapshot of the Calibration Screen, as it is for calibrating the touchscreen sensor points; after you go in there and (re)calibrate the touch sensors (screen will show a "+" graphic at various points on the screen for you to touch), the TNR will save the touchscreen calibration to memory.

there is also a screen that shows your position in latitude and longitude (DD/MM/SS) I found it by mistake one time and I haven't been able to do it again.

Any ideas?

Without going down and trying to duplicate it I'll give you what I remember. There is a menu that has a 911 button. When you push it it shows lat-long. Since I don't have On Star I had no fear but it may be a problem if you push the 911 with On Star.

I'll try to duplicate it tomorrow.

The GPS Information Screen also displays latitude and longitude...I purposely whited out the numbers.

007FL--911 button? I don't see that on my nav unit...where do I find it?

Toneman, how did you get to the Navigation Diagnostics Menu?

I'll start off by saying this--good luck!

I say that because I could not figure out the exact sequence in order to consistently pull up the diag screen; all I can say is that it involved holding down the "Config" button for at least 10 seconds. What button(s) I pressed and/or actions I performed beforehand--I have no idea which one of them did the trick; all I know is that in the end, you have to press the Config button for 10 seconds. If done right, you'll know since the diag screen will appear; if not, then you'll just hear a beep after 10 seconds. I spent almost an hour trying to figure out exactly what I did right before pressing Config--just when I thought I had the right sequence figured out, I couldn't get it to work the next time I tried it.

I can say with complete certainty that if you press the music symbol button (the one right above the Config button) for 10 seconds, you should see a screen similar to the one shown in the last pic (w/o the menu background).

Don't ask me how I figured this out, or what led me to "accidently" discover it in the first place... :(

I just spent some time trying and haven't come up with it yet, I know I found a weird screen before and didn't know how I did it and couldn't repeat it to this day.

I'll keep trying though :(

Another nav diag menu I overlooked:

In order to get to this menu, at the "Navigation Check" menu, press the "Back" softkey.

Pressing "GPS Info." in this submenu does this:

193670.jpg

When you press "GPS Info", all you get is a acknowledgment screen which simply states, "Now making!"--I took this to mean that it activated the option; to deactivate, just follow the same sequence just described...the only way you can tell if you activate or deactivate an option is to exit out of this menu and look at the map display. The data in blue appears to be latitude and longitude coordinates...

And I did finally figure out the keypress combo to activate the diagnostic menu--first off, nav disc must be loaded in order to actually access any of the diagnostic options. With disc loaded, press the "Nav Rpt" button, then press and hold the "Config" button for around 10 seconds until the diag screen appears. At the "Navigation Check" main menu, press the "Back" button onscreen in order to access the submenu (titled simply enough, "Menu") shown in the first picture in this reply. Pressing "Debug" apparently overwrites part of the nav map display with numerical data...sorta like some sort of screen dump. I didn't really try to mess with some of the other options for fear of possibly making my nav no longer function, especially after I was foolish enough to press one of them--next thing you know, the nav was constantly plotting location strictly based on GPS signal (the GPS symbol was constantly displayed), and my clock no longer displayed the correct time zone offset.

Other notes:

On the GPS Information screen (the one which lists the satellites), I figured out what some of the fields represent--the numbers next to the 3D, 2D, and NG stand for the number of seconds the GPS was in that particular mode (3D--meaning at least 3 satellites; 2D for 2 satellites; and NG for no signal). Pressing the Edit softkey allows you to adjust the clock.

On the Vehicle Sensors screen, I was able to confirm that the speedometer is pretty much dead-on accurate; the pulse count increases while your vehicle is in motion...it resets to zero when you exit out of the Vehicle sensors screen.

Did I overload you guys with too much info??? ;)

ive never seen those before, to get the 911 and lat/long, i think you hit nav button while in motion, it takes you to the screen 3/4 of the nav screen.

If you figure out how to get to the screens pictured above, please post it.

edit..nevermind, i didnt read closely enough. Good infor, thanks

Which nav unit do you have? On my TNR, when I press the Nav button while in motion, it displays the approximate address number (if available) and street name I'm currently on.

The 911 screen is in the destinations menu, along with POI, Address, Phone Number, etc. I think it's titled "Emergency"

It has NO effect on anything and does not interface with OnStar, unfortunately. It is just an information screen so if you were lost or in trouble, you know a) your GPS coordinates and b) how to get to the nearest police station, hospital, etc using the provided buttons there.

Sorry for the delay in responding. holstbnet has it right. My "911" screen is actually the Emrgency screen. Press DEST then go to screen 2 of 3 and you'll find it. When I found it again I relaized it was not connected to OnStar. It could be helpful though.

Ah, got it...thanks! I guess to me, it was just one of those features you sorta take for granted and as such, probably wouldn't look deeper into it. I'll definitely have to check out that Emergency softkey, though!

Just wanted to say hello to everyone, I just joined the forum and already I can tell its going to be a wealth of useful information.

I do have one question, has anyone been able to figure out a way to play regular DVD movies on the TNR?

I have a 2005 Tahoe with the TNR unit and wondered if that might be one of the settings in the menus discussed on this thread?

Any help would deffinately be appreciated,

Chris
