k&n drop in

I have recently put a k&n drop in filter in. Just wondering if i should disconnect the battery to let the computer compensate for the extra air or just let it learn on its own.

Although not necessary, disconnecting the battery isn't a bad idea. I disconnected mine for about 20 minutes or so, then I reconnected it and started the truck and let it run for a few minutes to let it relearn everything. The only bad part is reprogramming your radio presets.

I agree with Roofer 100%. It's easier for your computer to compensate from it's stock settings rather than it's "learned" settings. (That's my opinion).

I have always made it a practice if I'm doing anything under the hood other than filling the washer or checking the oil to pull the Neg cable off the battery. This way I don't run the chance of shorting something out and freaking out a bunch of electronics.

Although the K&N is a "drop-in" and won't require much wrenching... I'd disconnect the battery and reconnect it when you're done.

I would agree to disconnect but after you connect your battery I would take her for a ride down the street and run it a little on the hard side

What if I have had my codes updated at the dealership. wont disconnecting the battery, just erase those codes.

I don't know for sure but I don't think you'll lose any new updates. I believe those are flashed into the memory, and take place of the current coding in the system.

It's kinda like when you get your critical updates from "Microsoft" online. Even if your computer battery is dead, the updates are still there... The computer battery maintains non-critical functions, like date and time.
