Hey guys :driving:

Long time, no post, and here's the main reason why......

Back on July 27 I was heading into work in the morning, and I was on a highway overpass over parts of downtown Richmond. As I get near the end of the bridge, All traffic infront of me slams (and I mean SLAM) on the brakes, So I slammed on the brakes. Fortuneatley I was able to whoa it down enough to not hit the car infront of me.

We all come to a comlete stop, and one millisecond after I stop, I hear (and feel)a BOOM and see my right rear tail-light fly past me on the right side.

I look in the rear view for the car that hit me, nothing there, I look to my left, traffic starts flowing past me again, My initial thought is "Great, One of you clipped me and now you're running. Great!"

Then I look in the right side view mirror, and I see it, The motorcyclist getting up off the ground and starting to pick his bike up.

Long story short, most importantly we're both okay, he got some road rash to the back of his hand from going down, I was shocked to see he wasn't hurting from the actual hit. It was probably a 35mph collision.

My rear bumper is getting replaced, and so is the entire right side of the bed... plus some other odds and ends.

Humourous part of the story: We're both insured by the same agent. Which is a very good thing the way I see it, but man, what are the chances!

Now for the :P part of the story....

I had been driving around all summer with a crack in my windshield, and the officer who came to the scene gave me a ticket for it, which I am ok with.

But apparently that day was designated as VA State Police against ME day.

After we both got cleared, I went on to work (Driving with a busted tail-light, bent up bed and all) Went home after the day was done and played the "Report your accident to your insurance agent" game. By the time I was done with them, it was well after 5, auto parts stores were closed.

So I go on with my evening plans as scheduled.

Get on a the interstate (A different interstate mind you :D ) As luck would have it, a State police officer happened to be riding alongside right as I leave the on -ramp.

The Officer noticed my then decimated tail-light and without wasting a second throws his cruiser behind me and hits the Blues.

I informed him that the Tail-light was busted in an accident this morning, and own up to the fact that I misplaced my registration. He says ok, Gets back in his car, sits in it for no less than 30 minutes, and comes back out with his ticket-booklet.

I recieve ANOTHER ticket for the Cracked windshield, and he gives me a ticket for the misplacement of my registration.

It was definately not my day.

But I see my cup as half-full still, Like I side earlier me and the biker are okay, we're both insured, and I'm still able to live my life like nothing happened. Just without the Ranger (Driving an '05 Toyota Corrolla Rental while my pile of Ford is in the shop).

That's definite suckage. I generally don't write equipment, I may stop for it, and then write a seatbelt or something, but anyway. I also tell those I cite for expired tags or similar to keep the ticket with them until they can get the plates renewed with the hope that if they get stopped again, they won't get written twice. Who knows. Just glad you're ok as well as the cyclist.

silver lining? the 42 MPG that corolla is getting!!!!

IF they weren't so feminime, I'd get one of those new XRS models with the 190~ HP high revving 4 banger. hits 60 in under seven, while pulling off 35+ on the highway.

c'mon, just get a vette.... still gets almost 30 mpg's on the freeway : )

sorry to hear about the accident general, glad you are both okay. I would try to fight that second cracked windshield ticket since they are both on the same day.

Oh believe me, I am.

The Officer wrote up the no registration ticket as "Can comply with law", meaning if I show the judge my registration card it basically gets thrown out right there (Or so the officer told me). BTW, I have since found it. So I'm good on that account.

So it seems like he was just saying "ooh, look at me, I have a badge, looky what I can do!"

I apologize if how I'm talking offends any of our members on the force. As with any career, there are good ones for the job and there are those that, well, aren't.

Writing an equipment ticket at the accident was a bit weak in my eyes to say the least. But everybody does things a little differently. I'm viewed by a lot of guys at our place as being aggressive. I've always strived to be fair, but firm. I also know I can sleep at night.

    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
