ANSWERS TO THE OEM DVD INSTALL

THIS IS BEING DONE ON A 2005 CHEVROLET CREW CAB LT WITH A 6-disc BOSE SYSTEM WITHOUT A SUNROOF...

Well I decided to take it on myself...It seems that there's is a lot of questions that nobody can seem to answer about the install...I took my 05 CC (no) s-roof, 6-disc Bose with rear audio controls apart today and poked around..And I am going to hook up the Rear Entertainment DVD system...For the guys who are having a problem figuring out where that other d**n wire goes, look up the post here (if i find it again I will link it) that has the wiring diagram of the back of the radio..The spot that says "Radio Class 2 Serial Data"Its a small ORANGE wire right below the 12v ORANGE (on mine anyhow)...Thats where the [Pin 2 LTGRN\BLK VCM] wire connects to..I KNOW BECAUSE I TRIED IT AND THE UNIT POWERS RIGHT UP AS ITS SUPPOSED TO!!!! DVD comes up on the radio face and the movie plays as it should, not sure if it said RSE....I have yet to figure the audio end of it,its getting late...If someone already knows and would like to reply I would greatly appreaciate it...As far as being prewired, NOT!!! As far as a connection behind the radio or heater controls, NOT!!! Easy mounting to roof, NOT!!!!!! There Is No Wire Harness as I can see..I did not pull the liner down to look but I did look around with a small mirror and I see 1 harness up there for the Dome Light...The Headliner must be replaced with the correct one as far as I can tell...There Is no way it will mount up without having a gap at the back..THERE IS ALSO NO MOUNTING BRACKETS THERE EITHER!! I am going to post a link to The AVALANCHE site to a guy who replaced the entire roof assembly..YOU HAVE TO SEE WHAT HE WENT THROUGH TO GET THE OEM UNIT IN!!!

I am Sure you need to purchase a support for hanging it as there is no place to screw the back part of it up..I am going to GM and try to get the Part Numbers for the Headliner and Crossmember for us. As far as wiring it It seem like running the harness bac to the HU and doing some "Really Good" splicing may just do it...As I said I need to figure out the AUDIO end of it yet and will get back to you...

I am going to take pictures in steps as well once I get everything I need to do it.. ANYBODY WITH ANY OTHER INFO. THAT MAY BE HELPFUL FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN OR E-MAIL ME.......... :nopity: [/font]

That's cool, we both need the same things, I'm working with the parts Manager at our local dealership. I'll keep you updated.

I'm doing the same this weekend, I got the headlining, the DVD OEM, and the wiring the only thing I need is time which is the hardest for me. I don't have sunroof and my dvd in not like the one on the link to the installation of the Avalanche, my DVD have the DVD player in front and the screen on the back, just like the one shown on the Chevy web site for the crew cabs with this option. I install a navigation system as well and I just order the XM OEM from my dealership. The headling colors are shale and is you have the same color i can share the headlining part number let me know. I don't have this number with me right know but i'll be glad to share it. I will be taking pictures for this installation as well for this kind of installation.

I'd never seen that write up before:

Impressive documentation on the hardware that supports a factory DVD player. I only got a peek of some of this stuff when I put in my additional monitor. I had no idea that conversion is so involved.

Factory integration is great. But I can see the appeal of going aftermarket if these were the only two choices.

Hey Data23!! You are going to need a crossmember also...There is nothing on the roof that will support the back part (near the rear window) of the DVD player..I havent taken the headliner completely down yet but I am sure that theres nothing there to mount it too...... I have an 05 Shale Headliner

Please do share the part numbers, that would be great. Here is some pics of the RSE DVD PLayer for a Non-Sunroof CC...

05blackz-71,

Could you take some pictures of the overhead with the dvd removed. I think I'm close to having all the part numbers put together. Once I do, I'll post away.

Thanks
