Tailshaft bushing loose.

My 2002 Denali PU has a driveline vibration and I was just under it and noticed that there is quite a bit of play in the transfer case tailshaft bushing, I can move the yoke up and down at least 1/4". This seems like unusal wear for a truck with 47000 miles. Anyone else seen this? Can it be fixed without removing the transfer case? Thanks.

I'm TOLD it can be done. The bushing is just a little metal sleeve. Getting the old one out obviously is the hard part. If you have a quarter inch play, you might be able to get a pic or similar in from behine to pull it. You could always drill it but I'm not sure I'd recommend that route. It is only about a half inch wide so a pic or small screwdriver might work.

I actually bought one along with the seal beacuse the second seal was leaking again and I figured it may be the bushing causing some problems. I replaced the seal and polished up the slip yolk because of some rust and it never leaked so I never got around to truying the bushing.

Thanks for the info, I stopped by the GMC dealer and they have a tool that will pull the bushing in the vehicle, he said it was no big deal. I am just wondering why it wore out so soon.
