Just had Westin Platinum CPS Stepbars installed

I noticed 2 small dents on the driver side bar.  You have to be down low to see them but that just pisses me off since I just paid $340 + $40 installation last week.

Do you guys think they where dented during shipping?  I inspected them after the install, but I was standing up in their dark shop.

I doubt warranty would cover this?

They could be door dings from a small car I guess, but I NEVER park next to anyone and there isn't any paint marks left on it.

I am going to stop by the shop after work and see what they say about it, but I'm sure I will just get "so sorry".

I doubt you'll get much of an apology and I'm guessing since the bars are only two weeks old that they were either dinged during shipping, or during the install.  Who knows, maybe the shop will give you some free stuff or a partial refund if you make a big stink about it.

On my last truck, I had to get 3 drivers side bars shipped to me before I got one that wasn't dented.  They were minor dents, but I called the company I bought them from, and told them to send me another one and send a "call tag" for the damaged one.  The first return was easy, the second time he wanted to refund me $30 but I said I have a new $30K plus truck here, and I don't want a damaged bar.  They were on the truck for 3500 miles before I traded it in, and there were no marks or dings from normal wear and tear.  The first 2 boxes that shipped UPS were completely trashed, so it didn't surprise me that there was damage.

BTW, these were Westin CPS bars also...

I'm sorry to hear that they have dents on them.  I got lucky I guess when I ordered my CPS bars.  They came in great shape as well as the packaging was very good.  I don't think there was a way that mine could have been dented during shipping even if they fell out of the back of the truck they were packaged so good.  I suspect yours were packaged as well as mine were.

2 probable causes

1 - They were dented before being packaged - Which I don't think would happen.  Not impossible, but not too likely.

2 - The shop dented them accidently, they knew they did, and decided not to tell you.  Highly likely.

For a car door to ding these bars, they would have to pretty much hit it full force, and seriously damage their door.  I don't think that happened.

I would go back to the place that put them on and ask them how much they charged for each dent.  It's hard in your case as they have been on there for a couple weeks, but it's worth a shot.  It's not right to spend that kind of money to have them damaged before they're even a month old.

Good luck

Guys, I had them installed just Friday the 25th!  I went back to the shop yesterday (30th) and the guy went on and on about how good the packaging was, how he inspected them before the install and we both inspected them after the install.  I told him we both looked at them in the dark shop and I had noticed when washing it later, he said "well I would have noticed".

I said "well do these $400 stainless bars just dent that easily??"  He said he has never had any come back dented and it would take allot to dent them.

I haven't been anywhere in the truck except for work this week and I don't park next to anyone here.  The 2 dents are low under the 2nd step on the drivers side.  I think its too low to be a car door..  Wouldn't it have a matching ding in my paint to go with it?

I basically got the "so sorry" I was expecting.  He said he would call Westin, but I don't see what good that would do unless he told them they where damaged during shipping.

Anyone know the Texas State laws on returns?  Probably void after install right?

They must have been "pre dented" at the factory, or UPS really CRUSHED them!  I don't see how a door hitting one could have done anything to them without really messing up the car that did it.  They are pretty heavy tubing, and are pretty hard, so a ding would take a solid hit.

Mine were packed really well, and still look great, well, when they are clean anyway!

if you paid with a credit card, many credit card banks have 100% satisfaction. if you have tried and cant solve the issue the credit card bank will do a charge back and the place you bought the bars will be out of the $.
