Bright Light's...push not pull? Why

So my 03 Tahoe has some different features than my 01. First one, and it drives me CRAZY lol is the fact that I have to PUSH the lever to get my brights rather than pull it once and again to turn them off.

Wonder why that got changed...

and that d**n blue indicatior light is BRIGHT!!! Not only do you blind the other divers, but also yourself!!!

It is easier to use the "flash to pass" feature by pulling in. Did the 02 have the flash to pass?

The indicator light can be programmed, by the dealer, to be dimmer.

It is easier to use the "flash to pass" feature by pulling in. Did the 02 have the flash to pass?

The indicator light can be programmed, by the dealer, to be dimmer.

I know a lot of other cars use the same methods (ie. ford) but I like the pull once deal better

Don't count out your federal government requiring this method for some safety or standardization reasons.

Some dumb 16 year old chick was wandering out of her lane and into mine, and I "flashed" her to wake her up and to show that someone was there, only to later that night get a call from a Police Officer saying she complained about me "flashing" her. Go figure. Many cops I know say it is a safety hazard using the flashing high-beam. Not sure why its still on vehicles.

I never use it to pass. I do use it at intersections/driveways etc. to let another driver know they can pull out in front of me.

The officer had no reason to contact you. Flash to pass has been around for years and your concern was in your best interest of safety. Cover your own butt. She could have been half to sleep or on the dam cell phone and if she ran into you, you would have been the loser. Flash to pass is a European standard and is required on export vehicles. I cant even remember when it was started maybe in the early 1990's. Europe had it in the 50's.

YOU'RE THE ONE! Flash-to-pass has absolutely no effect on me. If I'm already exceeding the speed limit and am in the left lane to pass another vehicle and some jack-ass in a Jag or BMW comes up on me flashing the high beams I slow down just to piss them off. Doesn't work at all!

AZ, that ain't me !!!!! I'm smart enough, and sitting high enough, to consider what's going in front of me. If I see you're being held-up too, I'll even give ya a bit more room.

Now, once you pass the loser in front of ya..... Accel or get the hell out of the way !!!!!!!!!!

And I hear ya, I get losers all the time on my a$$ while I'm being held up. I'll move over enough for them to see I'm not the problem. Sometimes they'll back off, usually not. I'll generally mess with them after that if they don't get the big picture

Heck, I'm such a nice guy, just the other day driving home, some idiot in a white minivan is holding up the fast lane for miles. I finally get over two lanes to the right and am making progress, I see loser-boy start changing lanes hard. Obviously he's about to miss his exit

I saw him coming and slowed just a little, so now we're side by side

He'd speed up, I'd creep up just enough to keep him from swapping lanes. He'd slow, I'd lift I could see him going nuts in my peripheral vision. When it's just about to be too late to possibly make the exit, I slowly turn and look at him with a big smile and gave him the friendly nod of the head. Hiya neighbor !!!!!!

He actually made his exit, I don't know how !!!!

Not sure how it is a safety hazard? The "Rules of the Road", at least here in Florida (and I'm sure it's a pretty standard set of guidelines), say to do exactly that.

From our Florida Rules of the Road...

"On a two-lane road, tap your horn, or at night blink your headlights to let the other driver know you are passing. "

You must live in a very small town if the police have nothing better to do than take the time to track down someone that flashed their lights and take the time to call them to tell them.

I use high beam flashers all the time to let someone know I'm there (if they apear to be asleep) or to tell them to go ahead of me. This has been done in Europe for decades. The only diference was on my Fiat (when I was stationed in Italy) would allow me to pull back a half inch on the lever to quick flash and full inch to lock the high beams on. The push to lock the high beams does suck. And I have to shield my eyes for that high beam indicator.

Don't do that!! You'll get old women that pull out in front of you flying up on you blowing their horn and making ugly faces at you !! I had some old woman pull out in front of me this weekend (crawling), I blew the horn and lane changed (just to let her know that she needed to wake up). All of a sudden she comes barreling up on me riding my bumper (I'm in the HD by the way) and blew her horn at me and made this ugly face at me (where was the digital when I needed it ). After the fact, the person that was with me told me that she was on a cell phone when she pulled out in front of us .

She was probably trying to figure out how to use the cell phone. Did she have those big, eye-doctor sun blinders on? I had an old man once get mad at me and gave me the big, crooked, arthritic middle finger. It was nasty.
