Instrument Clust Question

I am replacing my 2004 Silverado Gauge Cluster with a 2003 Escalade Gauge Cluster. I hate the Silver Trim around the Escalade's Tach/Speedo.

 

Has anyone taken off the black overlay part of the cluster?

 

Would I be able to swap it with the one in my Chevy cluster?

I have seen where people take the trim off and paint it, but the parts should be interchangable.
