K&N Filter charger

Hey guys, I was considering buying a K&N filter for my '02 Yukon. That is, until I saw that they were $42 bucks at Autozone. With the filter being so expensive, I could replace with an OEM filter 5-6 times before spending that much! (OK, I'm a tight @$$). :chevy:

I've had K&N's on my other vehichles in the past, so I know they'll last forever with proper cleaning/oiling,

but my question is:

Did anyone notice an improvement in fuel mileage after the switch? If so, how much? That will be one reason I can justify the purchase

Not sure where you are getting your replacement filters or what kind, but a acDelco filter goes about 20 bucks. So the K&N is double the price. If you change every 20k you will be about $100 for paper but only $40 for the K&N plus $10 for the recharge kit. You do the math.

Wow, I didn't realize the OEM filter was that expensive either! Now it does make more sense to go with the K&N...

I got mine at walmart for $39.

I did notice a MPG gain right away. So far it has been a consistant 1mpg increase. I dont know what kind of filters you are running but the ac delco filters I used to get were $18-20 each so the K&N will pay for it with 2 of the AC Delco filters.

Heck, even my $200.00 K&N FIPK II has paid for it's self. I haven't noticed any MPG but it has a little more pep especially w/ a trailer and it has a pretty cool growl at full throttle.

you might save money on filters but what about all that extra dirt in your engines? :chevy:

ran one for 80k miles on my dodge, didnt notice a loss of power never used a drop of oil. no real sign of additional wear because of k&n. put a k&n in the truck and sell it before 80k let the next owner worry about it.

I've had one on my 96gmc, my 94 jeep, my 98 jeep, my 94 ford bronco, my 98 ford f-150, and I have one on my current 02 GMC.

The only 2 vehicles I ever noticed a difference in either acceleration gains or mpg gains was on my 94 jeep and my 98 f-150.

The 94 jeep was mainly because I put in a bored out throttle body and put a aluminum intake tube with the K&N filter. I firmly believe the response I got was because of the throttle body, and not the filter.

The only vehicle where I put a K&N filter ONLY, and saw some gains was on my F-150. It actually woke that 5.4 up a little, and my mpg increased by about 1mpg.

Other than that, none of my others ever saw an increase in mpg or pep. Some people swear by them, and others just swear at them.

Do they make a kit for the ol' TBI V6s? I'd kinda like to get a new air cleaner tray and cover as my stock black one is no longer nice looking. I was even considering spray painting it.
