First G.M. truck....have quest.....

After two rangers,I believe I bought the right truck.1997 GMC SIERRA 1500 STD.CAB SHORTBED Z-71 SLE.Bought from orig owner with 23,000 orig miles!! It is laguna blue/silver.5.0 v8 with 3.73 optional rear.Have window sticker etc.[sorry,I'm excited]. Truck has great performance,but have some questions.Would like to install a perf cat-back,anything but flowmaster.Also,a k-n fipk intake kit.Is this a good start? Dislike the mirrors and would like to know if 99-04 pwr mirrors of the same would bolt up{have pwr now}.Also what newer gmc wheels would bolt up to my bolt pattern,like the newer chrome wheels be it 17''or 18.Have the stock 16'' alloy w/265-75-16,just to common.Any and all suggestions are appreciated this is my 1st gm and im excited.Thank you all.Any other upgrades while were at it.......

I like my flowmaster system. The newer wheels won't bolt up, 6 lug versus 5 lug. Don't know about the mirrors, but doubt it.

It's a Z71, so the wheels are 6-lug, they'll bolt right up.

Yea all Z71 wheels are 6-lug so a set from an 04' will fit like a glove. As far as the mirrors go I'm not really to sure on this. I'd get with a GM dealer and talk to them..they may have some ideas.

 

I have a Magnaflow system and I really dig it. Granted I have the 4.3L, I've heard the same muffler on the 5.7s and it sounds really nice. Its not loud like the Flowmasters, and I think you'll get better gain with the Magnaflows. I picked up about 2.5 MPG with my Magnaflow on the HWY and probably about a MPG in the city.

I second the magnaflow, they sound sooo much better on a GM than a flowmaster. Flowmaster sounds better on a ford. Just my oppinion.

Welcome. The co-owner of the shop I take my Rado to sometimes put the 99 styled wheels on his obs truck. I don't think it looks bad.

I've got the 03'/'04 wheels on my 1998 Z71, I think they look sharp. I too didn't like the old stock wheels as much, like you said they're too common.

 

As for exhaust, I've got a dual in dual out 50 series flow master side swept right before the passenger side rear tire (w/ stainless oval magnaflow tips.) I think it sounds awesome, but it all about your personal preference. No matter what muffler you go with, I think side swept is unique, everyone's got the duals out the back these days.

Definatly. I have a 94' thats been dumped and I'm probably gonna do this to remove some interior rattle. I thnk its sweet looking..kinda Lightningish..
