Paintless Dent Removal

I've got a dent on the drivers side of my truck that some jerk did a while back and then ran away when I yelled at him.  But, it's been bugging me for a long time and since the paint isn't chipped I was looking into PDR.  Has anyone had this done before?  I guess it doesn't take long and is pretty cheap.  I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or opinions on it.  I would really like to remove the dent before I use zaino, because that zaino shine will more than likely bring it out.

My friend had someone open a car door into the side of his new Intrepid.  He had this done to have the dent removed.  I think he said it was about $50.

Funny thing is, the guy wouldn't repair it while my friend watched.  So he went up to the house to get a drink and his checkbook and when he came back down to the garage the dent was fixed.  He said that there is no sign what-so-ever of the dent...

the only part that troubles me about it, is that it's on the drivers side on the ext. cab panel (no fourth door) so they'd have to get behind the trim to get at it.  If it'll cost them a lot to do it, I'll see what it would be If I just took out the interior stuff myself.

I think that they use some sort of the suction cup system to pull them out.  Also dont know if its true or not but Ive heard that dry ice will take out some dents.

My friend that owns the body shop told me that they have to get to the backside of the dent. I'd like some more info also as my wife's Supercrew has 3 hail dents in the hood. Friend wouldn't give any more info, naturally he wants me to let him fix it. I'd like to keep from painting the hood and also save some money in the process.

I have seen training courses and tool kits to get into these types of repairs, and from what I can gather, they have a variety of very small hammers which are on long rods so they can get to the backside of the dent like unlocking a door with a slim-jim. I would assume there is some sort of weighted body dolly for the outside for support to tap it back into shape. Probably felt or rubber lined to save the paint.

That's what I've read, anyways. I have a few small ones I wanted to get done, so I started hunting around the net for some way to do it myself.

Still kindof a mystery to me, if it's dented, the metal needs to be shrunk to get it perfectly flat again..I would think (?)

I was looking around the net and all I could find on how to do it was one place would send you to school for it (about two months)

If I get time next week I'll swing by there and get a little more info on it and an estimate.  If I get it done I'll try to watch so I can see how it's done.  I'd do it tomorrow, but I've got some bowties to make.

I had a '99 Sierra that had a dent in the front edge of the hood. I hit a bird and didn't have a bug deflector. I had the paintless dent removal done and it looked great. You could tell where it was if you knew where to look, but otherwise you counldn't tell. They use long rods with various shapes on the end. They have to get to the backside of the dent. They push and pull and slide the rods over the area. What they actually do is stretch the metal back in shape. Much like an English wheel. Because oof the small amount of stretching. the paint will reflect slightly different in the area. But like I said, only someone that knows where to look will be able to see it.

I definitely have a bug deflector now. But I consider it a debris deflector. It really doesn't stop bugs.

Here's one that I could find in WI, I guess I'll have to scope it out next week and get an estimate.

And yes I'm working on the bowties.  All I can say is the HD bowties will look great, w/ a little prying and patience I can get the gold center from the black backing.  I'm going to put the flag on that and then glue it back into the backing.

when I worked in the rental car world, we had an agency (dent wizard) that we just kept on retainer..

did an entire car that was damaged by hail once in about an hour and a half, couldn't tell there had been any dents on it.

and they did not have to get behind the dent.. they popped them out from the surface

The back door of a Lexus left a ding in the middle of my drivers door.   I tried the dry ice thing.  Didn't work for me.  It is a pretty deep ding though.

I've thought about the dent removal but I want a new tv more.

I also heard of the dry ice thing ....but where does one get dry ice ?? The body shop wants $300+ the dent magic guy said about $50.hummmmmm  If you look close you can actually see the dent in my sig right on the upper part of the front fender in the body curve.
