Ticking under dash

I did a search and didn't find what I have been looking for. I have an 03' Tahoe. I hear a ticking sound under the dash, well it sounds more like this....

(take 10 metal paper clips and link them together, then drop them from about 1 foot onto a metal top desk)

I hear the sound, then 2 or 3 seconds pass, then I hear the sound again. It happens at idle, as well as when driving. It does not seem to be a constant, but I am hearing it alot more now. I also hear a squeek something simular to "the old speedometer needs some wd40 sprayed into it" sounds, but I know my speedometer is all electronic so that has me puzzled as well.

Any ideas. I am going to drop it off at the dealer as I am approaching 32,000 miles, but I would perfer to fix it myself.

Cheers to all and thanx in advance....

It's one of the A/C actuators. When you hear the noise, first adjust the temp on your side. If the noise stops when you move the temp, it's the left temp actuator. Same with the right. If changing the mode (dash vents, floor, defrost, bi-level) affects the noise, it's the mode actuator.

Actually, you might be able to get it to make the noise by adjusting one of those when it's quiet.

Thanx!

I will give this a try in the morning. I forgot to add that its sounds like it is actually under my steering column, or in the dash pod area (where the speedo is). I will get back to you by Monday (I hope) and let you know if that does the trick.

Thanx for taking the time to reply to me

Cheers all...

My '02 Tahoe does the exact same thing. Sounds like it's coming from the backside of the instrument panel. Let me know if you get it fixed!!!!

I have a '03 1500HD, in '04 I had this same type of issue, when I had the heat control set on "floor" I heard a ticking noise. The dealer under waranty replaced the Mode Selector Actuator as they found it to be sticking, the p/n for this was

89018374.

I finally got a few minutes to try it this weekend and it appears to be the mode actuator. You're awesome GM Tech :nopity:

I will drop it by GM, (my life permitting, lol) and see what they think. Thanks for the replies and i will update when it gets looked at.

Cheers...

PS: Am I the only person on Earth who doesn't seems to get time to drop the truck by the dealer? Hello Saturday morning....
