Hi can anyone tell me in my 05 Z71 cc what the green wire on the right side of the bcm feeds besides the reverse lights, the reason I am asking is that is I have my reverse camera trigger wire connected there as per instructions, the problem is I want to connect a switch to power the camera & interface so I can turn it on driving down the road ect along with it being able to come on when the truck is shifted into reverse, I can add a diode so as to not feed back to the bcm if needed but need to know what else might be connected besides the backup lights,

thanks Bob

I'm getting ready to do this on my '03 Sierra Denali and here's how I plan to do it using a relay:

From a switched/acc lead to a Toggle Switch to pin 87a on relay

From a switched/acc lead to pin pin 87 on relay

Reverse power lead from BCM to pin 86 on relay

Ground to pin 85 on relay

Pin 30 will send the power out to the camera

The way it's suppose to work is that the Reverse will trigger the relay and send power out to the camera. Also, when the switch is on it will send power to the normally closed pin on the relay to send power out to the camera. You might want to double check everything for yourself because I haven't done this yet myself.

Hey Rick this is a good idea & deserves some thought, I will play with this & post the results, don't know why I didn't think of this.

thanks Bob

Hey Rick drew this up today it will work but the switch will have to carry the load of the reverse lights, rear camera, trigger wire for interface & something in the rear view mirror according to GM-Tech when activated, when put in reverse the relay would carry the load, I will test & see what the amp draw on this circuit is, another way would be to use a heavy enough switch, single pole double throw, connect the green wire from the bcm on one side, acc power on the other side & the green wire going to the rear along with the trigger wire from the interface in the middle, that way in one position it will work when put in reverse in the other position it will use acc power to turn on & will not send power back to the bcm, I think this will be the most trouble free.

thanks Bob

Hi again did this install tonite & used the relay so I could use the mini toggle switch, swap your bcm connection with your toggle switch connection, 87-acc power, 87a-wire from bcm, 85-ground, 86-acc power from mini toggle, 30-green wire that came from bcm & blue interface trigger wire, rear camera power from green reverse light wire at trailer connector, circuit for bcm 30-87a will be normaly closed so will work when put in reverse then when relay is energized with mini toggle acc power from 87 will feed 30- camera & 87a will go open & not back feed bcm.

cheers Bob

I just wired mine up today and it's working great. I did use my schematic/diagram and haven't experienced any problems. Monitor will auto switch when camera is powered on-either when truck is in reverse or when I flip the toggle switch on. Got a great deal on the camera on Ebay-it's a Vizualogic. Has a really wide viewing angle (120 Degrees) I'll see how it does in low light conditions tonite after dark. I do like your SPDT switch idea-if I didn't already have a SPST switch in place I would have used your method.
