ABS Recall completed

Recommended Posts

I just got my truck back from the dealership... finally got my passenger side window fixed, new steering shaft and the ABS recall done.

100% better. Mine was so bad that EVERY single stop, the ABS would kick in right before I came to a complete stop.

Just letting you guys know that the dealerships can start doing this recall. When I spoke to my dealership, they didnt seem to know much about a recall for it. Later they looked it up and found the info...

Glad you got it all fixed. Was this all done under warranty?

The ABS fix was under recall = free.

really? I know they did it awhile ago for Canada, but this recall was just released for the US. This is the one were they pull the sensors out, clean and prep them.

Also, I've had my shaft greased twice and after about a year, the clunk always came back. Hopefully this new shaft is the last fix.

:chevy: Could one of you help me figure out if my truck needs the recall. I have one of the My GM accounts, but it doesn't mention a recall. I have 2002 Silverado, 5.3 with ABS.

Possibly its just the tires, but even with a little rain, the ABS seems to kick in pretty early at the slow speeds. Just doesn't feel like the truck stops well from about 30 on down when it's wet.

HOWEVER, I do have the Firestone C load rated tires, don't know if they are just slippery when wet.

Thanks for any advice

Mike

Just sounds like a tire problem.

The problem I had was that my ABS would kick in ALL the time, EVERY SINGLE STOP - regardless of road conditions....and it would kick from 5mph to a complete stop.

Where do you live? The recall is only for vehicles in the "rust belt" areas of the U.S. If you give me your VIN, I can run it through GMVIS and see if there are any open recalls on your truck.

Is the recall actually being done now?  My truck is in the list, but I have not gotten anything in the mail like for the tailgate cables. Can you just make an appt and bring it in w/o paperwork? :chevy:

Yes you can take your truck in without the form.

I just got mine in the mail today - after I got my truck fixed.

They also included a form to get your money back if you paid to have this procedure done (fixing this ABS problem before the recall).

I bought my truck in april and it lived its whole prevoius life in new york..I can show this through title and carfax inspections. Can I get the recall accopmplished even though I now live in Delaware (a non-recall state?)

If the dealer runs your VIN through GMVIS and there are no open recalls, they cannot do the recall on your truck.

GM-Tech,

My ride was purchased in Missouri. Could you please run my VIN and see if I am on the list? Thanks very much. VIN: 2GCEC19T7X1236546

I think it's a shame that only rust belt trucks are covered. I made many trips up north, in the winter, with this vehicle. I'm sure others have as well.
