tow haul mode

Hello

 

I have a 2003 1500 gmc sierra and it recently has started going into the tow/haul mode when I shift into gear. I have noticed that if I play around with the position of the shift lever it seems to turn on and off and also the button on the end of the shifter lever doesn't seem to work at all now. I 'm thinking that the wires in the lever maybe broken and are shorting together. Are their any known issues with this setup?

Just to update I took off the rubber boot that covers the shift lever as it enters the column and sure enough I found an orange 2 conductor wire running into the lever. It is held in place by a couple of plastic clips. Well somehow the wire must have gotten caught in the shift linkage and became cut. I butt spliced the wires back together and the button now functions properly.
