I have a back up camera setup. It comes in very nicely for both hooking up trailers or just making sure there are no little ones behind my truck. My truck is lifted so seeing anyone behind it or cars when trying to parallel park can be challenging. Here are some pics of my setup. I have a color camera mounted in the license plate frame and the monitor is mounted on the windshield next to the rear view mirror.

I just tried to take more pictures, but it is dusk and with the flash, they didn't turn out too well. Instead, I will post a link to the manufacture's page. It shows the frame pretty good. The monitor is a 4" color monitor. To hook it up, all I you have to do is tap into your trailer harness (I tapped into the reveres lights, so the camera only comes on when I am in reverse). I didn't want the camera on all the time, but that is an option too if you want that. There is one wire that goes from the camera into the cab. That was the hardest part, trying to get the wire into the cab. If you have a 4X4 I would suggest the grommet under the driver's feet where the 4X4 linkage wire goes through the floor. Once the wire is inside the cab, there is a Y plug that splits one wire off to the monitor and one wire to the fuse box to power the monitor. You can mount the monitor anywhere, it is very small and a nice square shape. I was thinking of putting it the overhead console, but decided to take the easy way out and attach it to the windshield. I just went to Nappa and bough rear view mirror glue and that has held up for the year or so I have had it. The entire process took about an hour, most of which was running the wire into the cab. The frame is attached with special screws to prevent it from being stolen.

 

I bought mine on ebay for about 350 or so (it has been a while but it was in that ball park). The link doesn't have prices, so do a search and see what you can come up with.

When I checked to make sure the link worked, I noticed that the website claims the monitor is 3.5" not 4. That could be the case with mine too.. I thought it was 4, but I don't know without trying to measure it. What's a half inch right? :cheers:

Thanks for all that info Highup, but for that price i will just keep on jumping in and out a couple of times each time i hook to the boat....Thought i could do it for around 150...nice install though

There are cheaper ways to do this. I chose this kit because it was clean and simple. You can buy the cameras on ebay for about 50-75 bucks and then depending on what type of monitor you get add another 100 bucks or so. If you do it that way, there are cables that you will have to add (most use rca cables). That was another reason I choose the kit I bought, it has it's own cable system, so no RCA cable (I didn't want to run a RCA cable for 20 feet into the cab). Do a search on ebay for rear view camera and you should get lots of hits.

I have to say that screen mount is very clean looking. I wonder how good of a view the driver can get on it their though. Seems like it would be aimed between the seats rather than towards the driver. I like it though. I may have to do some measuring and see how mine would fit. I think the overhead console would be a clean look too, if I had the time to do the modifications.

I tried doing a search for that kit on the net. I found one place selling it a little cheaper (439), but I also found the companie's site HERE There is an email link on their site. You might be able to talk them into selling you one direct. Worth a shot, if they do, let us know how much>>> I can always upgrade :flag: at least if my wife is out of town :cheers:
